Do you pay monthly or yearly for your hosting..?

It kept getting buried, broking apart, by interlopers. Another page of side-tracks created by the nitpickers would be created before the person I am directly responding to would know there is a new post in subscribed thread. Only those that watch threads as carefully as you would be immune ;)

Its a public forum that is open for discussion and like any forum (WHT, HD, WHMCS etc.) posts get buried and broken apart as the discussion grows.

I am the public too. This is just more nitpicking on your part. Just because its allowed doesn't mean its good.

Even when host sticks around the loss is the same if you just cancel -- according to the issues listed since beginning of thread (http://www.hostingdiscussion.com/we...monthly-yearly-your-hosting-8.html#post167827). But I have a different refund policy that I believe resolves that issue. In short it would simply convert your annual subscription to a monthly subscription upon early cancellation. Thus the only loss to the customer is the annual payment discount.

Here is my original post with the scenario remarked on by Terry. Tell me what you think:
I have had hosts that give a pro rated refund for canceling early. Honestly I have not ran into one that hasn't . Although I will admit I have not had that many hosts that I paid yearly. So I have only had the major loss when a company has gone under.

yes, but their is cancelling your hosting, downgrading plans, changing payment methods which are all different things.

we have had clients sign up for annual and then a few months down the line cancel and yes we have give pro rata refunds, then weeks later that decide to come back to us and again sign up for annual and then again a few months done the line cancel and ask for pro rata refund. All this costs us time and money in setting up these accounts and managing these accounts, so now as per our TOS and MBG we do not give out any pro rata refunds and this has never effected our business in any way.

What could go wrong? I suppose if you felt you had to cancel prior to the end of the annual period and the host refund policy states you don't get any refund I can see your hesitation. But what if the host had a refund policy that would offer the refund in such a way that you would end up paying the undiscounted monthly rate.

You're counting on the host being upstanding and honest and staying in business. With MANY hosts this could actually be a concern, short track records, fly-by-night operations, etc. Sure, sometimes you can get good service, they have 6 months of good reviews, but how do you know they can even last 1 year? Now, if this is a well established company with a top-end reputation, sure, there isn't a concern, but with other companies you could be taking a substantial risk.

Which part of my reply wasn't clear enough that this isn't the place to discuss your vision of a refund policy? Stalking every new post and bringing it back to your ideas and posts each time, is abusive not only to other members but to the health of this community.

Those that are interested to follow a conversation about refund policies, are adept enough in using the forum to be able to find the posts and follow a conversation. So for the last time, if you want to discuss refund policies, start a new thread. This thread is a survey of a different kind.

That is understandable. I always feel bad for the hosts I sign up with and then leave and then sign up with again. Normally I wait until my plan is close to renew so I don't have to worry about getting a refund specially if it is a host I like and I am just leaving for more space or in some cases trying out a new host that I just found. I think their are 2 hosts that I had like almost 3 times. Although maybe it was just twice for one of them.

every person have different needs or budget.everyone is adjusting in their budget.paying monthly is more preferable than paying yearly, because it would be more easier to manage small amount of money to run your business

Hosting business is very specific and due to a high amount of providers, it's always hard for a customer to find and trust one which will fit their needs.
That's why having an option for the customer to pay monthly is the better then just providing only yearly plan.
Most of people just need to know you better to start a long term business with you.

Unless there is a very good deal going I usually pay monthly for anything I am buying that requires a subscription. Just a personal preference. Makes me feel more comfortable, especially when just signing up to something.

Yup! Me too! I do monthly, unless the client has signed an agreement for a 1 or 2 year service plan.

Though, sometimes those yearly discounts DO get tempting! LOL

My first time hosting was my first mistake by paying for the year, lol! A few days later found out that their hosting sucks and didn’t know better. I stuck around with them for like 7 months.

Nowadays I only paid for monthly payment thru Paypal. If their host sucks again, then I can just quit and move-on to the next.
