Do you pay monthly or yearly for your hosting..?

We offer a number of billing options including monthly and annually. There is a significant price break for our annual billing cycle, so I'm curious why one would opt to pay more for a month-month plan even though we offer a 30-day money back guarantee.

Start by paying monthly then if the service is good and you can get a discount switch to longer term.

I think this is the ideal way to go for those starting out or thinking about making a switch - reliability, service and support are definitely for us some of the most important things you should base your decision on.

Then once your happy go long term and save yourself some money :)

Hi, This totally depends on your web hosting needs. I prefer to pay for a yearly plan over monthly as most hosting providers offer cost benefits on yearly plans over monthly. You could probably go for the monthly plan initially and then upgrade to a yearly plan after a month once you are satisfied with the services.

For hosting i would go for paying monthly as you can probably quit any time. if you are sure with your host then go yearly. Make sure you scan the terms first before buying anything or simply contact the host first.

You can always leave any time you like. If you leave before your 1 year term is up, any fair host will refund your money according to the monthly term rate.

For example, suppose a host has a plan for $10/month or $96/yr (equal to $8/mo for one year) depending on the payment plan you choose. Now let's say you purchased the annual term for $96.00 and you quit at 4 months. The fair host will convert your annual term to a monthly term, and charge you $10/mo for the 4 months allowing for a refund of $56.00

The unfair host will keep your entire $96.00 charging you an effective monthly hosting rate of $24/mo. Their justification is that you went past a money-back guarantee period. They are charging you for future services not rendered. If not thievery, this is an outrageous practice and its these hosts that give the annual plan a bad rap.

Do you prefer paying monthly or yearly?
i prefer paying monthly, because I might need more space/bandwidth after some months.
Hi there,

The advantage of paying upfront is that most of the providers offer a discount depending on the period (12mo/24mo/36mo). Usually, even if you pay upfront for a smaller package and after 6 months you need an upgrade, you will receive another invoice which is prorata, meaning the difference in price for the already paid period with the difference in cost between the two plans. Every provider should have this option. The downsize in paying upfront, if you choose to leave that provider. Some of them will give you a refund for the remaining period, but you have to consider that not all of them do the same. Cheers.

My own clients tend to take up annual plans to get discounts and other benefits however we do have just as many clients that pay per month or quarter.

if im testing out a new company, i start by monthly, same as if its a new company then its also monthly....

if its a company that has been here for some time, then i start monthly, if im happy, i move my billing to annually

At present all of my billing with service providers is done on a 6-month rolling basis.

At the beginning of the last month I start asking myself a few questions:

  1. Am I seeing sustainable growth?
    1. If yes, Do I need to upgrade the server at all?
      1. If yes, Can I find the a provider that can give me the desired stats for a better price?
      2. If no, jump to #2.
  2. Am I satisfied with the service that I am receiving?
    1. If yes, renew for another six months.
    2. If no, Can I work with the provider to improve/fix service/issues?

It depends on what the host offers. If you are getting a lot of freebies such a 1 or 2 months free, it may make sense to pay yearly. It also depends on how long the host has been in business and are if it is a reliable company. Most hosts offer a money back guarantee and you can get your money back even if you paid yearly

Typically though the "Money Back Guarantee" is only valid upto 30, 45, or even 60 days after the original date of purchase (or in some cases provision).

Be sure to read the Terms Of Service (TOS).

Its best to go annual. That way, if you like the provider you can get a big discount. If there is some reason you need to break the annual agreement before year is over, you get a refund equal to the annual fee minus calculated monthly fee, and thus end up paying the monthly cost in the end.

If you are going to make a comment get it correct. dont forget all hosts dont run their business the same as yours, you may give a refund equal to the annual fee minus calculated monthly fee, and thus they end up paying the monthly cost in the end, but that does not say all hosts do this.

My post is no more incorrect than the dozens of posts above that say the opposite and comment to stay away from annual plans. Your logic applies to these posts also Yet you singled mine out for special consideration. Kind of makes your motives suspect

Do I really need to warn against the thieves that keep the annual fee without consideration? To take money and not deliver the service is fraud.

how can it be fraud and the hosts thieves.

you as a client sign up for a 12 month CONTRACT and pay for the full contract ( no one forced you to do this), so after 2 months you as a client decides its not for you an cancel the contract ( this is a BREACH of the CONTRACT), so you are not entitled to any money back, in fact the host could levy an early termination fee.

look at mobile phone contracts that you sign up to and pay monthly, you have to agree to either 12 or 24 months and if you leave early you have to pay an early termination fee, which some will charge the full remainder of the contract. This is a legal. may not be moral or right, but its legal and no fraud has been committed
