Paypal fees: Too high, or not that bad?

PayPal fees are what they are. They make millions because they provide a service that millions trust. I certainly trust their services.

PayPal does offer better rates when you meet monthly minimums but even still I find the rates a bit high. I'd also like to see better protections in place for sellers of intangible goods and services.

I think PayPal is very expensive but I think sometimes you get what you pay for.

PayPal is very big and very popular. People have kind of gotten used to it now and feel safe using it. I think it is a good payment method to offer.

I think their fees are pretty close to what I have with my CC processor, and it's about what I feel the market standard is. So not bad considering the alternatives.

The down fall is if you have really cheap hosting plans it may be too high for you.

Hi!
Cost isn't the only thing I would be concerned with..there are other concerns. I personally do not trust Paypal. They do things that are unacceptable..such as hold payments without warning or reason. No..I'll still use paypal for small transactions..but as soon as I can afford it..2CO..here I come.

I think they are expensive and getting more expensive all the time but then they are one of the top preferred checkouts for most clients so we go with what is requested right? We have to even out our wants/needs/requirements and specify between them each. Paypal knows what they are doing or else they would not have the status they hold today.

Not sure what you mean when you say they are more expensive all the time. How are they getting more expensive?

I've never had a problem or issue with Paypal in 7 years I've been dealing with them.
The problem is they are a huge company so there will inevitably be issues from time to time.
Being big they are an easy target for people who want to make a big deal of it. Even to the extent of starting negative sites and flooding discussion forums with misinformation.
Others happen to read these sites and forum posts and assume it's true and sometimes even use the stories as their own.

They aren't too expensive, and I don't think they've got more expensive. However I dislike how they've removed the fee break-downs. Plus charging a "Cross Border" fee is a joke since it doesn't cost more to sent to (say) a USA PayPal account, etc.

Unlike Blue, I have had quite a few problems with PayPal. But they are one of the biggest, hence there's nothing much I/we can do I guess.

I think their fees are acceptable for big amounts, but it can hurt if you have hosting packages as low as $1/month, because over 30% of that will go to PayPal.

Our company will never use paypal again. I suggest you find a real merchant account / payment gateway. Paypal is for beginners, and they will rob you of your money leaving you no option to recover.

I think they are fair, paypal needs the fees to stay up. They hire many employees and techs. Where else would they get the money to pay them?

I think paypal is a little expensive,
but people are too used to paypal now, they trust it, to offer them alternatives such as 2CO etc is hard as they don't trust things they haven't heard of

I think I'll agree with the majority here and say I think Paypal's service is decent.

You're going to pay a fee no matter what payment processor you use, so why not use one that's a household name like Paypal and majority of people use and trust?

Agreed, I know a lot of people hate PayPal, but in fairness it does what you need it to.

Do I wish the fees were lower? Sure I do, and in a perfect world they would be, but you'll always find there's a middleman who wants his cut! :twocents:
