Is Unlimited REALLY Unlimited?

I agree unlimited is not everything it is advertised to be. However, I think only a few companies are looking to mislead anyone. We for example offer unlimited, simply because it is easier for our members to understand. Generally, in my experience, the majority of the small business, eCommerce and personal web sites we host are not out there just generating traffic unless they are up to something else, such as illegal file sharing. Here’s our take on the unlimited concept. Just my 2cents.

A lie is a lie period.
You can justify it any way you want but it doesn't change the fact that it is a lie.
You are making an offer that is impossible.
You are trying to mislead people just as much as any other host that lies about unlimited hosting services.
You seem to have a low opinion of your clients if you think they can't understand limits.
 
I like to look at unlimited offers this way: if you purchase a limited plan with 200gb storage, etc, that is in the same way as purchasing an unlimited plan. The limit there is unrealistic so why not remove the limit at all.

Well, maybe "easier to understand" is not the best choice of words. The members we attract care more about the service we provide and building their on-line business and the number of transactions their sites are processing than the amount of disk or traffic they are using.
 
There is no such thing as unlimited. It's simply a marketing strategy for web hosts.

If you read the terms of service for any of the unlimited hosts, it basically states that your account will be canceled if you use a high amount of resources. So yes, it's unmetered, until you use a certain amount of resources. Then it's very "metered".

That's why personally, I have never trusted a web host stating unmetered or unlimited bandwidth and/or disk space. Luckily, I have my own web hosting company now and don't have to worry about poor quality anymore :)
 
Unlimited disk space is an impossible marketing gimmick.

on the other hand, unlimited bandwidth, depending on how a company defines it, is possible. unmetered bandwidth means the hosting company does not limit the amount of bandwidth a customer uses. however, it will only provide up to the max of the connection.
 
I agree its a gimmick, but its possible to add more hard drives. Unlimited is no limit on how much space, but with a well written TOS, Unlimited is possible as long as the customer does not abuse the TOS.

Its how everyone define the word Unlimited.
 
Folks,

You would have better luck receiving a golden egg from the Easter Bunny or a date with the Tooth Fairy than every thinking you will actually be able to use unlimited bandwidth and disk space from the so called "unlimited" web hosting companies.

I am new to web hosting industry and I am a little confuse about "unlimited XXXX" . Now my provider lets me have unlimited mysql databases, email acounts, domains, sub-domains but not disk space or bandwidth. Now I have finish my website and I am offering unlimited mysql databases, email etc... Since they allow me to do this, is it really bad for me as a company to offer that in your opinion? To me, its not lieing because my provider says I can.
 
Just because your provider lies does not mean you have to.
If you are going to offer these things without restrictions then unmetered is an honest term. Unlimited is not.
 
unlimited is not really true, thats a tricks only.

yes, you can see in your hosting panel, but the truth is when you reach big spaces and bandwidths you get maximum cpu limits so the provider will terminate your account.

Blue I like your thinking and realize I don't want to be associated with the unlimited crowd. Honesty is the best way to. I truly understand the whole "unlimited" thing.
