How many hours a day do you work?

What can I say, we're in a 24 hour, 7 days a week business! ;)

exactly, if you are not willing to be awake 24 hrs to sort issues out then you are in the wrong business.

Also you have to look at timezones.

We are based in the UK and my advertised hours are 8am to 11pm GMT (not often i work to these being a one man band), but when you also have clients in the USA or other countries then your sleep time of 11pm to 8am GMT is daytime hours for other countries. I will always try and get 4 to 5 hrs sleep a night if i can.

I have a laptop set up so that any critical server warnings or any urgent client support tickets will give an audible warning when directed to a specific email address, so i can be woken at anytime if i am asleep

I don't stop on most days.

I leave the office around 5 and come home to work until bed.

I wouldn't trade it in though.

Oh, I would like to change my answer! I'm always on call for two business a matter a fact, so therefore I'm constantly working, I typically turn my phones off while on vacation. But to be honest, I love what I do and love being a business owner.

It's such an accomplishment looking back to where we came from, to what we have become today. But I will admit, at times I want to cause damage! :crash: ^TG

Since I basically work for myself, I guess throughout the day and evening.

Someone mentioned feeling like a zombie, does taking time out to kill a zombie or two to get the energy level back out count as working also?:D

This completely depends, from 1 hour to 14 hours. That only includes actual work though, taking care of the business almost requires all of my time.

I'd rather charge lower prices (for shared web hosting) and be able to sleep and have a life. Sorry but if you are getting .net errors on your needlepoint site at 2am after editing your web.config file incorrectly you may have to wait until 7am for it to be fixed. For a couple bucks a month I think that is fair.

I am a very light sleeper and dont need much sleep (always been like this). regardless if its 1pm or 2am if the issue is due to a clients mis configuring something then they get charged £10 for me to correct this.
But if for some reason the server/node has issues and goes down at 2am id rather know about this straight away, so i can attempt to correct thsi issue.
but in hosting 2am GMT in the UK is sleep time but is 8PM CST time

Yes, if a server is down, that is a different story.

And me too.....I am up right now for reasons otther than hosting but I am going back to sleep :zzlep:

but until the alarm goes off and i look i have no idea what the issue is.

some i will just downgrade the ticket status if its not urgent and go back to sleep, but if its a small thing i will just do it so its out of the way.

But got sick of clients asking me to correct issues they caused themeselves ( but as always blamed the server) so i instigated the £10 charge for such issues and guiess what i get 1/2 as many of these issues, so i think clients were just wanting me to correct their mistakes as they did not want to do it themeselves and now they have to pay a small change then dont ask.

This happens with on-site repairs also. I stopped fixing friends' computers for free many years ago. What would be described as "critical" to operations or data be "valuable," would become much less so if I charged even a nominal, heavily discounted fee. And when it truly is important, they are happy to pay.

thats true, especially now with the economy the way it is. i have a friend who wanted me to fix his computer ( the fan stopped working) I told him i would do this for £50, he agreed. I had a spare fan that i knew was working, so i replaced his and tested and all working, i asked for payment as he told me he did not have the money, but would pay me next month, i was not happy, so i removed the fan i added and put his broken one back. I told him when he has the money contact me and will be happy to repair it. a few days later he contacted me complaining it cost he £170 at his local computer repair shop to replace his fan. I just laughed.

I work minimum of 20hours /day, No maximum, It can be 21 hours, 22, 23, 24....

I cross check what is happening on my Hosting company, i check for fraud orders, and reply to mails sent to the admin(Not to Technical Support)...

I usually work 8 to 10 hours a day. But during college i have my phone connected with all the services so i am always up to date on what is going on with my servers and if needed do the changes remotely. A balance between work and play should always be maintained :smash:
