methods of payment

Paypal and Quantum Gateway. They have work the best for us. Both very secure and stable.

heard a lot of good things about Quantum Gateway, but you can only use this if your business is USA based with a USA postal address and you have a Federal tax ID

NOTE: Our merchant account partners can ONLY provide merchant accounts for businesses in the USA.

What are the fees for Stripe UK? 2.9% + ?GBP

Are you using it live? How is it working for you, are your clients going for it?

Seems like it's public now

2.9% + 30p

We have a lot of clients who now pay via Stripe because with WHMCS as recurring payments with a lot less hassle of paying invoice monthly is a plus in the clients end. Stripe support have been more then helpful with any questions and no extra charges for fraud screening as AVS+CVV checks are included as default. This is probably a real contender against the likes of SagePay who have hefty fees /mo etc.

I have just signed up today with Gocardless (direct debits). they charge 1% upto £2 max. and have no chargeback fees. As soon as i signed up i messaged all clients of the new payment method and already have 24 clients who has replied to my message asking to switch to DD payments.

It can take up to 10 days for payment to be completed so in a hosting environment where payments need to be made by due date and close deadlines I wouldn't really recommend it. We tried it, VPSs were left suspended because payments were made too late (3 days before due date but received 6-7 days later)

we issue invoices 14 days before due date, so ample time

7 here but do let your clients know they should pay it when invoice is generated then otherwise you'll have flying tickets of why the service is suspended :smash: but other then that 1% fee for such easy system is great

Its a Direct Debit, so once the initial payment is made, the payment is made automatically at the set period, so after the DD is set up then in WHMCS i set the account never to suspend, which means the system will not suspend them if the invoice is unpaid on the suspend day ( 3 days after due date)

PayPal is probably the best as it operates worldwide and a very reputable and trusted company.

are you sure about that ( see below) in just a quick google of paypal, their are plenty more. If they were that good then why in the UK did the FSA refuse to renew their licence

Well to be honest you will always get people who are not happy with something, it's just a fact of life. However, looking at the shear number of customers and the amount of transactions (sorry I don't have any stats here), I'm quite certain that PayPal is the biggest player. That's why more and more people and business' are using it.
Personally, when I buy something, even though there are other payment options, I always opt for PayPal.

Re: FSA that's news to my ears. I couldn't comment or give an opinion about that because quite clearly they still have a strong online presence here in the UK.

Personally I trust PayPal enough and have faith in their dispute resolution mechanism in place to keep on using them. Although their fees aren't the cheapest!

On a separate note, has anyone here from the UK, got any experience of using the DirectDebit scheme as an alternative method?

GoCardless looks to be a really viable option and the fees are actually very cheap in comparison.

Also, I know some companies are using iZettle. Again the fees are cheaper than PayPal.

But the main question is that I don't feel that the vast majority of consumers are ready for those other 2 payment methods. I know that if we were to roll it out, our clients will still prefer the good old PayPal or bank transfer over those other methods.

izettle is not really appropriate for hosting. this is a method of using their adaptor to turn your iphone/ipad or android into a mobile card reader that payments can be made direct into any bank account , therefore saving a merchant the expense of a merchant bank account and credit card terminal. we looked at izettle, but you are limited to which iphone/ipad version you use and what android phone you use.

instead we chose to go with payatrader.com as they have no such limits, but this is mainly used for our other business which is offline

In 1993 the FSA refused to renew Paypal licence to operate in the UK under the consumer credit act, this is when Paypal (Europe) Limited set up PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A. and become licenced as a Luxembourg credit institution in the sense of Article 2 of the law of 5 April 1993 on the financial sector as amended and is under the prudential supervision of the Luxembourg supervisory authority, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier, with registered office in L-1150 Luxembourg. and operate in the UK under a European licence
