methods of payment

I'm sort of surprised with all the love that PayPal is getting in this thread, and no one is bringing up the many advantages of utilizing a payment gateway.

A service like PayPal requires you to send customers off your site, disputes are geared to favor the customer (including freezing the funds in question), the lengths of time it takes to receive your payments, and the other restrictions that they enforce.

and 99.99 % of all payment gateways will take the customer off your site for payment

I should have worded my comment differently. Of course, the processing will occur offsite. What I meant to infer was that it will appear to be a seamless transaction for your customers if you use a payment gateway.

Unlike using PayPal where a customer could easily abandon the transaction when they get sent to their site to complete the payment. It looks substanially more professional to use a payment gateway than PayPal, unless you're selling your goods or services on an auction site.

I only accept PayPal and UK bank transfer. Only had it used once for a yearly payment. But you have to wait for the transfer to happen tho before you can accept an order.

Its just as easy to abandon the transaction when they dont get sent to a site that looks a bit different. I agree on the professional part, but when your clients choose their payment gateway to be "Paypal" they know what to expect when they click on the pay button.

I think most customers would prefer paying via an external gateway - then the know there card details are not gonna be stored anywhere or logged.

My point is that not all clients are going to be thrilled to be paying you with PayPal. Some still associate it as that 'eBay payment service' while others may think that they still have to sign up for a PayPal account to pay you.

A true payment gateway allows you to accept payments almost seamlessly and in seconds. Sending your customers to PayPal just adds yet another step where a sale could be abandoned.

Why take that chance and continue to deal with PayPal's higher fees, lack of customer service, and slow payment process? Why should you have to wait 3-4 business days to get paid? And even then, you still always need to request that your money be transferred to you? That doesn't happen with a payment gateway.

The most popular is Paypal, I've used it too but I'm not really very comfortable with the charges.
I used to work for this payments processing company here in the Philippines and it's similar to PayNearMe in the US. It's pretty cool because you can order off the internet and then you can pay via any 7-Eleven branch.

We use Paypal and Quantum Gateway to handle our payments no problems other than a few fraudsters can get through maxmind, but tweaking it any more sensitive to fraud nabs normal customers.

A lot of paypal love here, so my question is would you go somewhere else if they didn't take paypal? All paypal users will have a debit/credit card (if they're an adult) so do have an alternative payment method.

I always try to avoid buying anything online if the seller does NOT accept PayPal. On the rare occasion I do have to use a credit card online it's usually business related so I use the company card and don't mind that much.

For personal purchases online I almost never use my personal cards, unless it's a very trusted and well known site (e.g- Newegg.com, Amazon.com, ect..).
