What Forum software do you prefer?

I think that Vanilla is up and coming, I've recently converted a few vB forums to Vanilla for clients.

Both phpBB and vBulletin are very goog to build forum but still I would like to compare them of the basis of ability to stop spam and banning capabilities.

My personal favorite is phpbb. They have been around for quite some time, they are very well documented, and there is a trove of people who are experts in this code there to assist you if you run into any issues. They are also very quick to issue fixes for any bugs or security issues that may arise.

Free SMF
Paid vBulletin

If your site gets too big SMF is not good as it has a lot of inefficiencies in it, by then it's better to think of migrating to vBulletin.

Free - PHPBB (extensive history and mods)

Paid - vBulletin (professional, excellent security and large number of mods)

I am very addicted to a clean interface kind of thing and so i would opt for either XenForo or Vbulletin. Both are simply superb.
