Removing a Fraudulent Negative Review...

Normally we vet our customers to some extent and we found that a client was violating our TOS by hosting child porn on their website. We promptly shut down their server and this client left a trail of negative reviews across several websites under a fake name. We did our best to track them down, report them, and respond telling our side of the story. However many reviews still stand...anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have any advice?

Just ignore them and get on with running your business. make sure you block their IP address and emails from your system, so they cannot rejoin your servers.

Hi, can you please report the client on FraudRecord (a free community-based WHMCS client reputation check plugin), so everyone can prevent such clients.

We had a similar customer, well they hammered resources and refused to upgrade - They didn't just leave 1 review per site it had to be 2 or 3.

Suck it up, part of the game and removing them can be near impossible - We have had one or two removed before but negative reviews should be around aswel as positive - If it was all positive customers would think it is all a fake show.

Fine having negative reviews, but when the review is clearly fake then it should be removed.

I once registered a domain and within 24 hrs i has 2 negative reviews placed on McAfee SiteAdvisor saying they had bad shopping experiences on the day i registered the domain by the same person who attacked me on WHT and other forums. The domain had no website so McAfee removed the reviews, but when i looked at the username who posted these all their posts were personal attack type comments

I totally agree, but it can be near impossible to get them removed from some sites - As long as the review site is fairly active you have a strong chance.

As long as you know hope to go about it then you will get such reviews removed. If you have stong evidence and then review sites will not remove it then you go direct to their hosting provider and inform them they remove it of they get charged $1000 a day it remains for damage to your business and reputation and they get reported to BBB. this usually works

Great recommendation, I will keep it in mind for the future myself - One site was good at sorting it which was hostadvice, the others were non resposive.

It's a great question, and as the owner of a hosting forum, I occasionally faced a situation when a company (even with a lot of muscle), asked me to remove a negative review. Legal threats or not, I don't remember a single case when I removed a review. I would with a court order, but it never got there.

In this business it is incredibly difficult to validate any review, whether good or bad. I always advise companies to reply to a review with your side of the story, if such tools are available. Website owners, on their end, can at least create a system in which they do their best to validate (verify whether the URL was hosted, collect contact information, ask specific questions).

On customer end of things, those that do their own homework, decide whether to believe what they are reading. It's not difficult to spot a review that is spammy and emotional, and thus very questionable. Anything constructive or specific, however, is a lot more believable.

You will get fake reviews even negative ones from time to time. But ignore those and focus on your paying happy customers as they will give you good reviews eventually. Dont worry too much on those negative things as you cant always keep everyone happy.

Each review site is privately owned. Owner set the rules. If they accept fraud negative reviews - I think that is their issue, not yours, because you do not have any chance to prove that.
I have a feeling such such do "like" negative reviews more than positive ones.

No matter what review site you go on for anything. Hosting, vehicles, utilities etc. you will find out 9 out of 10 reviews will be negative as people seem to only post reviews when they have bad experiences. most review sites will check reviews before posting them, They have no idea if a review is fake or genuine, but a respected review sites will remove fake reviews if you can prove it

I would agree with you. Negative reviews are most likely to happen. Better not to pay that much attention at them and provide the best services.

The best neg review I got was through McAfee SiteAdvisor. I had an issue with ex-client who I terminated for nonpayment, he posted all sorts on various forums and mywot, in that one of his lapdog followers decided to post a neg comment 'I had a bad shopping experience' on one of my domains. the problem was the domain was only registered the day before and had no website or DNS attached to it, so naturally, once I proved this then the review was removed, but looking at the reviewer account it seemed that's all they do was attack other websites

Great experience. So negative review was removed from all places where that was posted ?

no just McAfee SiteAdvisor removed the review on their system

mywot demands a court order from their country before they would do anything and all WHT did was remove me and allowed the faker to remain

Fraudrecord is absolutely the best approach to this . Keep those reviewers listed, so the community knows what to do

the problem is that the community then needs to utilize fraudrecord as it should
