Nobody reads terms and conditions: it's official

We actually do read them when we buy new dedicated servers and we will also send out e-mails to make sure we understand right.

However, for the normal client, they may not have time or really know there are such a thing. We have noticed a lot of people under the age of 18 signing up for web hosting.

Another true point here. Most people who are more involved in the industry or those who are business owners and sell goods online, know about the importance of the TOS. These also normally read it whenever they purchase, or at least read the most important statements (at least what they think is important). The truth is that the average person, even though they might know there is such a document, will just skip it because don't realize it is important.

sure, as long as its something that seems to be trusted in the community, i wont read the terms and conditions either and just trust that there are no big issues that have not already been smoothed out

new company or something unfamiliar, whole different story

Is it really a big surprise to anyone? I think that most people do not bother to think twice about reading a single word of tos agreements. Then you get others that skim through scanning for terms like "refund" or "damages" but, All in all this shows you a good example of people that agree to terms and when something goes wrong, the complain about never being "told" or are actually convinced that they have a right to be angry.

Unless you're a lawyer, you won't enjoy reading a long legal agreement. Even if you are a lawyer, you probably won't enjoy it. It is a problem though because if people did read them, they wouldn't complain later when they find out they agreed to things that they didn't want to.

In TOS everything is to protect the company only..... this is the main thing of not being read.

With everyone so eager to file a lawsuit over the smallest thing these days, companies have to do what they must in order to protect themselves. Otherwise, the lawyers will start circling like wolves and you'll be putting out more money on frivolous lawsuits than you can afford.

It's unfortunate, but true. :(

It is true that most people do not read TOS. If they do the scam will decrease significantly. Unfortunately most of us prefer to save "time" on sign up and risk to loose many hours after that to deal with dishonest sellers that hard our interest.

That's pretty amazing. I was taught that I should never sign something unless I read it. Thankfully, I read fairly fast, but it does take time to be sure one knows what one is signing.

It is very important to love reading and to be able to read fast. Otherwise scammers could put all the misleading "hidden" terms on the bottom of the TOS document and someone who's "not good at reading" would get so bored that they could fall asleep ;)

Yes, this is very true.

It also puts us providers in a bad position when we prove a client wrong according to our terms and then a small issue turns into a bigger one.

That is hilarious! Good for GameStop, and what a way to prove no one reads TOS.

I read them sometimes; it depends on the site.

The sad fact is that a lot of people today are just lazy and always in a rush. They feel it is not important to read the TOS or it is too much to read.

This many times causes issues in the long run if a customer does happen to violate the TOS. They leave themselves uninformed and if an issue does come about them seem shocked and many times angry with the service provider.

I have learned over the many years of being in this business that it is necessary to read every line of a TOS to keep myself protected before proceeding with the purchase of the product or service.

That's pretty funny :) Some terms I've read were like a book with no organization and it was a pain and then others organized it into sections with headers and subsections that made it much easier to digest.

Thats a fact

Can you blame people? I can't enjoy reading interesting things most of the time, let alone every tos they force down my gullet. Sure, I skim though for terms like "refund" and such. On average, how long are these things anyway? I never printed one. :smash:

Besides the TOS are long enough to give plenty of reasons for the reader not to read them. Who has the time? However we do tend to read TOS of utmost priority. I think thats the case for all of us out here.

I read it, because I like to know what they are really offering and what my recourses are should something not work the way I feel it should.

If anyone who posted in this thread read terms of service, it would be a miracle.

Terms are long, small and boring, no one reads the small print, then they loose out for not doing so, it's the norm.
