methods of payment

BITCOIN's can be converted and transferred. Already their are fast food shops, online stores and other services starting to accept this method of payment.

PayPal is probably the most secure, all around. We use PayPal, a credit card processor (Stripe and Braintree are both excellent), Skrill, Dwolla, and Bit-Pay. I recommend them all.

I will go with PayPal, 2Checkout and Google Checkout.

Offering 2CheckOut suddenly brought us a lot of new customers, and each and every single one of them was from Spain and was fraud. Somehow, fraudsters love 2CO. Eventually (ironically), 2CO decided to stop providing service to our company due to the high fraud rate -- which was non-existant before offering their method of payment!

We stick with Paypal (allowing for all major credit cards), Paypal PayFlow Pro (directly on-site CC payments), and certified cheques/money orders. We have considered offering Bitcoin as well, but due to the volatility of the currently, are not pursuing it currently.

2CO does not have a seller friendly environment. For hosting providers atleast, it is very forceful when it comes to charge backs or banning their accounts. Also, many hosts have lost a lot money as 2co confiscated their funds and shut down many accounts accounts back in 2012 and 2013 start. Bitcoin is the future from what it seems, however it would not reach the paypal popularity any soon.

I agree with 2CO, they will force you to have your clients go through them as if you have no or very little action over a 4 month period they will downgrade your account to a buy only account, so you could your your 2CO account to make purchased, but you wont be allowed to accept payments.

Another fantastic way for clients in the UK to make payment and a method I have deployed and been accepting for a while now is 'Cashplus Business Account'

As the business holder / account holder you have a sort code, account number and also Master Card

Clients are able to pay with cash at any UK Post Office® branch or Cashplus store.

It's a great way and convenient way for UK clients to make payment easily and for businesses to collect and it's great for business owners to make payments themselves etc

i looked at 'Cashplus Business Account' when Payoffline stopped offering their services in the UK, but when i check out their website, their was no mention of prices/rates anywhere. the only mention of fees is this

Simply apply and pay the low annual fee instantly online. You could receive your card within 3-5 working days.
but that just takes you to an application form and still no mention of what fee you have to pay.

so this is a big turnoff to me.

Yes.

If you offer intangible goods (like we all are in the hosting industry), you can not protect yourself from chargebacks on PayPal.

This is an issue that I think all hosting companies are facing on a daily basis, and it sucks.

I agree and also their is not buyers protection if you purchase intangible items.

Paypal may as well have a banner on their site saying 'Fraudsters please use us as we will 100% support you'

i.e. you set up a flashy website that list downloadable software (which you dont have) and use paypal as the payment method. You get people order this non existing software, so this does not arrive, so you set up a PP claim, well this claim wil be closed as its intangible, so in a way PP has supported the fraudster as they have your money and you have no goods and PP will do nothing to help.

In theory, you're right but in practice I'm quite certain that PayPal will close accounts of users who get disputes/chargebacks for high percentage of the sales they make.

I know it's free to receive payments etc ...

You may find more useful information here: http://www.mycashplus.co.uk/business/make-and-receive-payments/default.aspx

At the time I took out my account the fee was just £25 but I still personally think it's a small price to pay to allow clients another method of making payment. When researching into this back then I realized students and other potential customers in-fact prefer paying bills etc via the Post Office and regularly pass local Post Offices so away from the usual methods of taking payment I have found CashPlus another great and easy option.

but you s till have to pay for a card

Account Summary

Card issue fee £49.00

Total £49.00

This is not a contract fee - you can cancel at any time.

Credit card merchant account is the best for a method of payment. I also vouche for paypal but its bad for hosting niche.

With merchant accounts you have direct connect to win chargebacks and to stop fraud. 2CO and other third party plugin are not real "merchant accounts"

2CO decided to stop providing service to our company due to the high fraud rate
This is exactly what happened to us and HAD to leave 2CO after many years of working with them. With this type of policy towards customers, I feel they might be fading out.

Now we use Stripe, They control fraud better, and we are very happy with the service.

BitCoin via BitPay.com com has also proven to be a "fraud-free" avenue to new business + customers.
If you do not want to hold BitCoin, No problem, BitPay will deposit $ USD into your Bank Account.
