How do you know your Web Hosting Provider can be trusted?

Some metrics to use when deciding whether or not you can trust a hosting provider are client reviews, amount of time in business and technical support. Client reviews are probably the most helpful as they will give you an idea of other peoples actual experiences with the company. If you see many positive and very few negative reviews, it is likely that people are happy with the company. However, reviews can be abused, so it's probably best to look a little deeper.

The amount of time a company has been in business can provide you with a few pieces of useful information. Number one, it will tell you whether or not they are a fly by night company out to make a quick buck. Second, it will tell you if they have the funds to stick around for a while. Granted, this isn't 100% accurate, but it's likely if a company has been in business for 10+ years, it will be in business for another 10+ years. It will also give you an idea of the type of experience the host has. Many years in the industry will mean the company has seen a lot of changes and dealt with many different types of circumstance.

Technical support is the last on my list, but just as important as the others. 24/7 technical support will mean there is always someone around to help you out. This also means that the servers have someone monitoring them 24/7. This sort of goes hand in hand with uptime as having someone there generally pushes uptime up.

These are what I would look for in selecting a host that you can trust. There are several companies out there that fit the bill. Once you have figured out which providers you would consider, the reviews will probably be the determining factor.

Oh I think they'd agree. I'm their go to guy on everything hosting. So you can see they're in BIG trouble.

With so many hosting companies out there, it has become increasingly difficult being able to decide who to trust. It is a big problem in the web hosting industry, in my opinion.

Some things I would take in to consideration:

Is their WHOIS information available or privacy protected? If it is available and a telephone number is listed, is that number a valid way to reach the host?

Are they a legitimate, registered business? If so, what was their filing date and does it closely correspond to the registration date of their domain name? In the agent/contact information section of their listing is an actual person listed or is it a third-party (anonymous) registration company?

How do they feel? By that I mean when you contact them do you get the impression that you are dealing with a professional or just some kid who says things like "u" instead of "you" and "lol"? If you were purchasing another product online or over the phone, would you trust this person to take good care of you?

What is their reputation? While all companies have to start somewhere, do they have testimonials from web sites that are legitimate, un-affiliated customers?

How transparent and direct are they? If you ask them a random question about their business, let's say "how many web sites do you host?" or "how many sign ups do you get per day?", do they provide you with a quick, honest answer or dance around/avoid the question?

Are they ready and willing to back up the claims that they make and can they provide you with relevant examples?

Those are just a few things off of the top of my head.

Dave

There are so many hosting companies are in the market & it is very difficult to judge who is honest? One should make decision at his own. If host is fulfilling all the requirements & response time is legitimate as per you then you should host with them.

Look for the following when choosing a web hosting Provider:
* Reliable Network with little to no downtime
* Additional bandwidth
* Full Technical Support
* Additional memory and upgraded drives
* Affordable cost (the cheapest hosting company is never the best)
You need to select the one that has some reputation in the market. Do some research !

Use google and do not trust affiliated hosting reviews :)

The problem with Google is that it is so over saturated with affiliate sites that it becomes difficult to get honest reviews. In my opinion your best source for reviews are forums like this one and web hosting talk as well as other sites such as HostJury.

Yeah, i quite agree with Dave..now day google also could not be trusted...a lot of affiliate review...the best place to look for real review is hosting forums...

Weill i trust my hosting provider 4goodhosting. I've had my account with them for about 4 years now and their service and support is excellent.

How do you know your WHP can be trusted

Hi,

The Web Hosting Provider can only be trusted if it strictly compliance to the customer needs that is it has to be well acquainted with need recognition and analysis, quality, reliability and controlling measures.

If Web Hosting Provider effectively identifies the above, I believe the mentioned problems may not exist and customers will definitely be delighted. If Web Hosting Provider documents the problems related to Web Hosting so this will also give him an edge to encounter the future hurdles/obstacles accordingly.

That is just something you will have to develop is the trust. Talk to the providers you are interested in, take some time and actually speak with them as a person, talk to them about what you are looking for. If you feel confident by the information this provider is providing. Give them a shot. If all else fails, just switch providers and you can have all of your documents and information from your sites provided by your first provider transferred to the new. Good luck in your decision making!

It is very important that you point out a excellent web host. Excellent doesn’t mean expensive. Excellent means reliable with fantastic support. And there is also one way to check out the reliability of a web hosting provider is to assess the statements from other customers. Find out if they have experienced problems in the past. Also, see what steps the web hosting provider has taken to ensure that they are reliable and that if they have a problem it will be corrected quickly.

I'd have to say none can be trusted. Unless you know them on a personal level, even then you could still get screwed. Best way is read there TOS closely and communicate with the provider one on one daily for self assurance and read several reviews. Maybe even have a contract written up on "Right Signature" to ensure what you were expecting from your provider.

Do "backround checks" on the companies you are unsure about, google it and see the reviews or feedback on the company. Best of luck to you.
