How do you know your Web Hosting Provider can be trusted?

If you are choosing free web hosting services, I think you should not host a website which is very important to you and you wish to earn money from it.

However, if you are doing this, take regular backups for your data and make sure that you do not hand over your domain name details to them.

Yes, thats a very important point suggested. You do not have much control over the accounts, hence disclosing your domain and rest of the details is a risky business.
Though you are looking for Free Web Hosting service,it is important that you do enough research about the host before signing up.Failing to do so would cause serious damage to your online experience.

Agree especially as his list included "100% uptime guarantee":crazy2:

There's no such thing even on High Availability configurations that cost thousands per month. Every system is going to experience some form of downtime from time to time.

What is more important than the downtime is how it is handled. If the service goes offline and is brought back online within 2~5 minutes by the provider with some sort of legitimate explanation then I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it happens on a very regular basis.

Bingo.... I completely agree to this.Perfectly stated, more important is how well and how fast the servers are brought back online.
One must understand that these are after all machines, and they are bound to fail sometime, therefore it is not practical to expect 100% uptime.

And even more important is that they are *shared* machines meaning that anybody with a very poorly coded script can crash it in a pretty big hurry.

How such a situation is handled says much more than whether or not the issue happens at all.

When putting your data in the hands of others you really never know what’s going to happen with it and you really don’t have much assurance. However; the best thing you could do is too look up reviews on the prospective hosting company and see for your self if they are trustworthy.

Try calling the company and speaking to them directly, ask them questions, see if they will tell you anything that will make you feel safe with them. Ask them “Why should I choose you as my hosting company?”

Fisrt, you should check the company's information, then you can check the company's products and services,if necessary you can give a test to the company,If the company provide the best service, you are able to trust it,beacuse it is gained by your own experience.

I can't agree with you more.Sometimes the reviews is not reliable,so what can we do ,is check it by ourself, analysis their response it is clearly ,timely or not?

I also agree you have to make you own mind up as any one can setup a reseller hosting company and make up reviews as they go, Call the hosting company speak to someone and ask questions. Most companies pride themselves on support 24/7 well ring them at very late at night and see if you really get through to someone. Reading reviews on the company is also a good start but this is not set in stone as anyone can sit and post good reviews on there own company. Dont be scared to be a bit ruthless with this and you should put in at least a few days research if you are serious about your online business

I would suggest you search around and find out information on them. Get some reviews and see if they are trust worthy or not.

How do you know your Web Hosting Provider can be trusted?

Many companies offers web hosting services. How do you know they can be trusted of protecting your data? What if something happen like losing, corrupted, or stolen of your data stored on their servers?

Hello whiteberry,

You can find reviews(not fake) of the hosts and even check the domain registration for trusting a host. There will be a few, who cannot be trusted and are having many fake reviews and long period of existence. There will not be someone who supports through live chat and cannot be trusted.
Check with that also.

Best way his check their money back guarantee period. Once you host with them check it's response time & if unsatisfied cancel the hosting before money back guarantee period ellipse.

While choosing webhosting company, we should look for following things :
1)What are the mean of support provided by the hosting company?
2)From how many years is this hosting company in business?
3)How many clients they have ?
4)How many servers they have?
5)Does the hosting company provides money back policy?
6)Is the hosting company providing any extra features?

For choosing an honest and reliable web hosting service provider, its important to check for reviews on external review sites as well as check the customer testimonials.

I'd have to disagree a bit. Most "hosting reviews" are paid in some way by the "top hosts" mainly just a way to advertise. The one or two I know that go by what people say on all the larger forums (good & bad totaled to get their "best list" leaves out those like myself who have litlle or no posts from our clients)
Then testimonials can be made up- personally I prefer references that don't mind being e-mailed by a prospective customer but some people could even "pay off" their references for glowing reviews.

Personally this is a quandry that;s hard to answer. I know I have only seen one or two posts from my customers in 10 years. They just don't surf hosting forums because they are happy--why would they?

I would say see if they back up their claims. If they offer telphone-call and ask a few questions-see if you get a person or machine. If they guarante uptime they should have a link to their monitor like Alertra or whatever on their site so you can see their average & if it meets what they clain. If they claim speed look for a speed test and see if your speed to that host relates well to a speed checking site--just comparisons of what they say to what can be proven.

Other than that there's not much you can do. I have actually thought about giving discounts or some incentives to customers who post on the forums or review sites--but thewn how honest is that? And since we host 99% business they don't care about saving a few bucks for the time it would take them to do a review somewhere (in man-hour costs)

So look for 3rd source verification of up-time & speed. Make sure if they say they have their own servers they do and are not a reseller (leaves a gray area for VPS & "cloud" servers-technically they have a virtual server(s) of their own but they aren't the same as their own leased/owned hardware.)

Look for what seems important to you and then talk to someone there about the kind of site you have and what you expect from a host and trust that "gut feeling" you get as to if they are being truthful or just telling you what you want to hear. (I would expect any host to have some type phone contact even if it's not 24/7)

Best of luck..because one person can have a great experience with a host-another one doesn't like the same host & it's hard to tell if the opinions are honest reflections.
I truly believe all you can do is go with your instincts, not the "asvertised" & "site review" stuff. That could cause you to bypass the smaller host that might value you more than the dollar host who is going for quantity and every customer doesn't count as much individually... just IMHO... :rolleyes2

Just look for reviews, up time stats, and if they are established (most companies open and they don't even have money to pay the bills)
