Best way to get customers?

We are a somewhat new (October 2008) web host that just recently changed names. We currently host about 5 websites on our server, and I am assigned to get more customers. What would you say is the best way to get customers?

i began about the same time as you. i am currently hosting 56 Approx. i find that using the local paper. and looking for local businesses websites. approching them and giving a cheaper alternative to their exsisting hosting works quite well in todays climate

I still think that local markets are just too important to ignore. Do a targeted mailing to businesses within your community.

Perhaps place an ad in your local community newspaper, try forming partnership with a local real estate office (every agent need a website), etc.

Online, participate on as many web hosting forums as possible - this is the absolutely best way to get your name out there.

Agree with every point. Networking pays off huge dividends when working your local market. Years ago, one of our reps networked with a consultant, who when their current ISP went under, transferred every account to us.

Posting on forums helps tremendously in branding your business.

I think you should try and get good reviews in the local market as well as good rankings in search engines for keywords related to the products you offer. This would allow you to get more customers, however, make sure that branding is very necessary alongwith good rankings in order to get more sales 🙂

i would start posting in forums like this and try some SEO and see how it go may not work but give it a try.

I just re-opened after 3 years..

I felt back then and still do, that word of month and good reviews is the best way.

It worked for me back then and I'm sure it will again.

There's been some great suggestions so far. Also remember that your existing clients are your best salespeople. As an incentive for them, the next invoice you send out you could include a message telling about referral commissions available for each new sign up they send you.

if you want to have a good ad campaign you should invest a lot of money.. more money .. more customers

advertise on some forums, in papers contact your local shops and other companys just do anything in your power to get your name out there

There are many ways to try. I've tried quite a few and am still working on it. Forum posting, adwords, classified ads and word of mouth are all good.

As far as online promotion goes we have seen the best result from forum posting.
