Link trading seems to work more for SEO purposes as generally most people who want to trade links will trade links with 1000's of other hosting companies.

Although if you can trade links with a web design firm or such maybe helpful.
 
We do quite a bit of advertising on WHT as they offer a free advertising section there. We also recently started a ad banner and PPC campaign due to a year-end promotion they had. Results were not as great as expected unfortunately.

A fine tuned affiliate program can definitely bring in a lot of business too.
 
yes you can't think without forums but also need to spend few $$ through ad programs like adwords for better response.
 
We've recently targeted local business through google. Its been working great since location specific searches usually cost much less then general terms.
 
In agreement with word of mouth and generally your current customers can bring alot of new customers too if you pla your cards right.

But it is really really hard to get clients. It is weird, cause where I am, In Canada it is an untamed service. People just have no idea what web hosting can do for them or for some companies. I tried 2 in 1 business cards (your information on the front and a kind of referal thing at the back and provide a certain amount per registration), felt like a good idea but so far, not so good results. I tried ads on Facebook, nothing! Tried ads on Google, nothing and expensive. So I now run my own advertisement service. Anyway, its hard to get clients, and word of mouth is good, if you have a certain amount of customers. Anyone has other tips and tricks ?
 
Re-design biz card
One way to get potential client that works is by handing a very professional biz card. if yours are not excellent, redesign it. it's your powerful marketing tool

I tried a strategy once which is to sell cheap hosting for college students that needs hosting for their projects, they grow, and their needs grow with !
 
Forums work great, but there are many other forms of advertising to try. PPC maybe be quite hard, but why not try local newspapers or community websites?

Agree. The best thing is to diversify your advertisement and your presence.
But word to mouth is the best for long term customers

You are quite right.
But what you said can be put in those words: advertise to people that are likely to buy your product.
Interesting if you are a webmaster ... you all ready have a HOSTED site. ;)

No its not only that way, There are several ways to advertise. community interaction, social media, and etc.
