XEN vs OpenVZ

I'd go for Xen as it supports Linux as well as Windows operating systems. It also provides fully independent Kernel install and related modules

Well, absolutely all virtualizations can be overselled. Do not have illusions that it is possible with openVZ only.

Well, I do not know any provider, which do not use overselling, even the small one... :)

Well some providers actually never over sale. We decided against over saling over a year now and actually you wont even notice difference in revenue. Over saling brings insignificant margins in the end

Overselling with openVZ became a norm. It is very hard to sell non overselled services, because lot's of potential customer's do not care about overselling, they just see parameters and price.

its becoming to me harder and harder to edgucate clients. As exactly what you said instead of realizing why their hosting is slow is because its oversold. They think if they get a host with SSD or a host with cloud in the name that will fix the issue. So they move to a host way overselling with (insert whatever buzz word.) Then wonder why the issue has not improved.

Its possible not to oversale. We stopped overselling on our shared hosting plans although for obvious reasons we allow it on our reseller servers. A host can decide what is in their interest and implement it.

most people will go for XEN, as host can't oversell ram and hdd space.. which mean you get better performance also. rather on a overcrowed server

Indeed xen is more popular but managing backups and restore the vms from it is more easy in openvz. There is no harm to offer both virtualization technologies to your client. Let them have choice and decide which one they need.

Another useful thing about OpenVZ is that when you upgrade, the resources are made available to your customer immediately with the need to reboot. So no downtime. Even the diskspace is available immediately.
