Would you pay more for SSD VPS

SSDs cost a lot more then normal or even enterprise SATA drives and the performance increase is huge, in both non-raid and RAID10.

If your looking to do intensive IO activity then SSDs are definitely the way to go.

SSD drives are FAST and they these days SSDVPS can be had on the "cheap" - too cheap in some cases. I suppose they are more expensive in that the actual space is much less than that of a SATA drive. For instance a 120 GB SSD is around the same price as a 1 TB Sata HDD. So in a sense, you do pay more, since you're getting less physical storage.

But if we are talking about web sites, is this faster response time noticeable in the visitor's browser?

It depends upon the content. If it is a DB heavy (i.e. very large forum) or a gaming site SSD would provide an advantage.

If it's just static hosting with little to no DB activity HDD would be fine.

Normally I wouldn't pay for SSD on VPS. It of course depends on the price and purpose of the server. If the VPS needs high performance and reliable but smaller in terms of storage.

A website or server hosted on a VPS could take the advantage of an SSD but you have to think if it's worth it.

I doubt it. I believe browser rendering time is the bottleneck. With most sites today, it seems all the html objects are downloaded before rendering is complete. In other words, page load times have a large client-side contribution.

Again it goes back to the content being hosted. If we're talking standard / static / brochure based websites then yes, I doubt you'd notice a difference (html objects as you've said - key word - html). If we're hosting a GS or database intensive application, an SSD has an obvious advantage.

If the client has an ssd it would be even better :)

If you can get a speed test first and it goes 150mbs+ it would be worth the extra money. The average openvz vps only does around 60 and less.

I can say from a seller stand point that we have more customers requesting SSD options over traditional SATA and other forms of drives. SSDs are building a good name in the hard drive world and quite a few people like them in their Dedicated or Virtual Servers.

Sorry for the edit, forgot to mention we have seen far less hardware issues with SSDs as well.

It would depend what the VPS is going to be used for...

For example, I would pay extra for SSD if it was going to be used as a 'frequent' database server or a Minecraft server. For a simple website, I wouldn't use SSD-based hosting.

As most people stated, it depends on what it's used for but it is definitely faster - the real question is do you NEED SSD hard drives or not? If you do, go for it. If you don't, probably not necessary but it all depends on how much more you're paying. I'd definitely use it if it was only a few bucks more - there's plenty of places that use that as a selling point.

Yes and no, it depends what it will be used for, backups and storage is a no unless its ssd cached to the hdd then that could work, if your looking for fast write and read speeds then go with ssd, it depends on the end user and preference on what you will be using it for. personally i use it because it has the fastness i need for my hosting and files that are backed up and small.

It really depends, but in most cases it only helps close a sale. I am sure some people would pay an additional amount, but it's very common for top Linux VPS providers to offer SSD RAID storage at no additional cost.

A VPS hosted on a node with SSD drives is extremely beneficial if you're running a game server, database driven application or other server intensive applications.

SSD Drives are good, they give fast process and work output. You consider it for fast IO, but costly hardware, less space.

For better faster speed and IO access. SSD have been really important this days, for backup solutions also. I prefer them having slow SATA.
