Why I Like Free Hosts

Free hosting is good

Initally free hosting is good, but now a days lot of cheap web hosting services are available for as low as .5$ with lot of services and support

Free hosting is good for non-profit sites, but there are a few risks involved, when its free. You are risking whole of the data that you are hosting there, which can get deleted anytime, without any backups. Also, most of the free hosts occupy some space in your web page with their ads.

On the other hand, paid hosting is better except that you have to shell out some money to host your website. They have a lot of specifications and you get your site backups and have no risk of losing your hosted data, and have full control on your web page.

Paid hosts charge for their more stable and faster site hosting, so you should not always think about saving a few dollars for so many advantages you are getting with the paid hosting, which is pretty cheap these days, starting from $1 a month.

Good overview comparing the two major blogging platforms. Regarding the free hosting however, it assumes that the webmaster is looking to monetize their site. In reality, if someone was looking for free hosting then branding / monetization is probably not too high on their priority list. Ease of use is probably more important for these people.

It sounded to me that the OP used free hosting to test sites and then move them to paid hosting when ready.

There are many paid hosts out there that offer unlimited domains for cheap. So adding another domain to to test would not cost any more than what was already being paid. If you already are paying for hosting on some domains why use free hosting for new sites. Just add them to your current account. It does not cost any more.

I think it's better to invest just a little bit in purchasing the web hosting. I've worked with the free hosting companies before (also for non-profits) and they just don't look as nice because they're more limited.

I agree with you on this. It's better to invest some bucks and get what you wanted. It's worth the payment anyway. And besides, there are many cheap web hosting these days, you can get it if you really want to instead of using freebies.

I don't want to moralize here, but look at the signature of the guy who has opened the thread. It says "Host1Plus.com – Professional Multi-Location Hosting". AT the same time the so called webmaster says "As a webmaster, I like to use free web hosting to host my non-profit sites, or web sites that are in their beginning stages."

This is a joke. this is either meaningless talk or a marketing through signature for someone? Honestly I feel like such posting style insults the intelligence of the forum members who really want to talk here.

I think free web hosting is useful for beginners to be able to make a website ... but free web hosting also has a feature that capital weakness supporters because they have limitations ..

Thanks for share that and hope it can useful

Free webhosts and usually VERY slow, and some require a link back of some sort. This is very annoying, thats why i personally dont like them.

Free hosts are good only when they are not intended for a long term purpose. If you want your site to stay long, go for dedicated servers instead.

If you have a non profit organization a lot of hosts will offer hosting free. For example My Host we offer free hosting to any non profit organization that can prove they are legal.

Free is always best. If you are getting free service from anywhere you should use it but do not fill that space with spam.
Free hosting providers provide limited services if they fulfill your need you should choose that only.

Nothing is free in this life. Why hosting should be a exception?

If you are using a free hosting soon or late they will use banners to finance their servers and their costs.

If they don't use advertisements:
1. they'll close soon.
2. they're going to ask you to switch to a paid plan soon.

Free website hosting is always good for users as they dont need to pay anything but at the same time they don't know the advantages of paid service over the free once.

but at the same time they don't know the advantages of paid service over the free once.

That's not good. They should know that in a free host where they don't pay there are risk and all of this data can be lost.

Why? Do you think that a free hosting makes daily backup as many paid hosting providers?

The only free hosting I have used has been Geocities. And it had the typical Geocites/ Angelfire/Tripod 90'ish, amateurish, "my web page" look.

Recently I have been contemplating trying one or two free hosts with a couple of idle domains that I am presently not using. I definitely wouldn't consider using a free host for any vital website.

As far as reliability I am betting that the higher quality free hosts provide better service then some of the nightmare paid hosts I have suffered through.

It does seem rather odd for an owner of a web hosting company to be recommending people to use free web hosting!?

Well, I like using free web hosting for new blogs which I feel that I don't have to spend much money on first. Although in free hosting, the features are only limited, but it could also be a good start.
