Which Control Panel Do You Prefer?

I started out with cpanel when i first started my website, so know when i started my hosting comapany i went with cpanel/whm

Its a shame i could not vote for 2 , Cpanel and Plesk 7 , Cpanel is a little ahead but plesk is catching up fast now days !

Hi, this is my first post so I shortly introduce myself. My name is Berrie and I have a Web hosting and Design Company in the Netherlands. I am running 5 co-located servers and 3 Dedicated servers (all in Amsterdam) On two Servers I am Running PLESK (that is also what I did vote for) Why? I think PLESK 7 is in Europe more accepted than cPannel, also I believe that PLESK is safer and more user-friendly. Also I use all 4PSA software for PLESK for several reasons, unfortunately 4PSA is not running on cPannel. :crap:

Does anyone know where I can find exact pricing on h-sphere? It seems hard to find on their web site, not very clear. Is it because too expensive?

FYI:
If you pay psoft's prices for licenses, you'll get stung @ $4.50 per license.

Most distributors sell them at $3.50-$4.00 per license in the 1-100 region.

My advice (if you go with H-Sphere), is to contact Jeffery at www.hspherelicenses.com - that way you'll only pay ~$3.50 per license.

Also, I'd suggest putting the CP on RHEL (ES) and then running win2k if you're going to branch into windows (it integrates into H-Sphere perfectly).

If you have the resources, i'd also suggest running seperate servers for each service (MySQL, mail, CP, DNS1, DNS2, Web, Win) - this will become the best choice you've ever made ;)

Pretty soon, you'll see why H-Sphere doesn't belong in a competition with the rest :)

H-Sphere, by a country mile.

Second (not even close, however) would be Plesk 7, with CPanel just behind.

As someone working with over 30 servers, dominated largely by H-Sphere, I see it as a no-contest.

I like H-Sphere. We have not much choice here. All depend where you hire the server. And what comes with server Cpanel and sometimes Plesk or Ensim . I know I can hire the server without the panel, but I do not want a car without steering wheel.

I wonder why for instance The Planet does not offer H-Sphere. What big guys know that we do not?

One of the main reasons is lack of knowledge.

H-Sphere is far from a "throw on - sign out" scenario, and you can guarantee that Admin's in charge of H-Sphere clusters can be placed on just about any server, and maintain it with supreme ease.

From an administrative point of view, H-Sphere is like no other. Many other control panels are inflexible, and limited by the OS. H-Sphere on the other hand, becomes the OS.

For a datacenter to publicly support a control panel such as H-Sphere, they must have the highest of highly skilled technicians. Offering servers @ $200 with H-Sphere will not cut it in a managed environment - there is no room for true expertise in that pricing model. Nor would I expect TP to know how to configure a large cluster of windows and unix servers together - it's simply not their target market.

Rackspace quietly support H-Sphere, as they used it for quite a while, again it boiled down to them not having the technical know-how to support it.

The point a lot of H-Sphere advocates make, is that H-Sphere cannot be classed as just a control panel, as it is much more than that. It's a true hosting automation platform, and the only one of it's kind. This means that supporting it, takes true linux/windows technical ability.

I honestly could type all day about H-Sphere.. it's my baby :D

I would have to say CPanel with Plesk being a close second. The reason for CPanel is basically because that is what I started off using. Learing something new is never fun when you know CPanel inside and out.

I am however fan of the new Plesk 7 Reloaded. This has been very popular with a lot of our Linux customers and some are even swithcing from CPanel to Plesk 7 Reloaded.

Operating websites for over 7 years now, has enabled me to experiment with various control panels, either products (like the ones in the voting options) or custom build ones from the respective hosting provider.

I have used Ensigm and cPanel from the ones you discuss and have installed them on my company's servers. My opinion is that Plesk is the most reliable contol panel. Reliable for hosts and for customers. It is more stable than any other solution I have tried before.

A good fact to note is that our customer support team is contacted by each customer approximately once in 8 months and in 99% of those cases the support issue is not concerned with the control panel. With cPanel we had approximately one support issue per customer per 4 months period and in 28% of those issuses were related to the contol panel.

As for the reseller features of these products, have not tried them as we are not offering reseller accounts.
