Where best to sell hosting?

As others have mentioned start off with SEO & forums, blogs etc. and then move on to google adwords.

Don't expect it to be cheap though

SEO never really hit me. It's a quick way to throw money down the drain. As a small business, you're really not going to make an impression against the larger players in the market.

Focus on the simple stuff. A lot of businesses cater to foriegn nations and customers thousands of miles away when in reality, potential clients are waiting at your doorstep. Local businesses will jump at the chance if you bundle it all in.

The majority of the clients that we host are actually small businesses based in my city, all I did was print out a few flyers offering them all they needed and the phone wouldn't stop ringing. (slight, nay, major exaggeration)

Once you do start building a list of clients, keep them happy. Impress them. Wow them! Word of mouth is an unbelievable selling tool.

The local market is definitely an untapped market. And they're won't be a million other hosts trying to get the same market.

Im guessing these local markets will require more support? Maybe an idea to team up with a web designer and offer web hosting + web design packages.

Definitely, most of them are not even actively searching for a host but once you throw the idea at them, the desire for a website becomes far greater.

In regards to support, it's give and take. If things run smoothly and the websites are operational and serve their purpose, you'll never hear from them but the moment something goes wrong or the client needs an extra function or 2, you'll need to be available either via the phone or in person. Throw them a support ticket and they'll go berserk.

Yeah, we hired a designer and we offered everything in one package. Web hosting and a website ready to go. We made money on both. :)

Forums are the best place to start any money you make should get reinvested in a targeted SEO campaign and you'll start to make good money within the 1st year.

One good and free way to advertise your business is on social networks. Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr are all good sites to tell the world about your service/services. I would try all three! Make a page for your business on Facebook, make an account on Twitter, and make your own blog (comes with free hosting) on Tumblr. As far as Facebook and Twitter, the best time to post is usually after 2:00 PM. This is usually when the most people are online socializing on social networks. Be sure to post often though so people will see the posts!
You might even try designing your own blog or have someone design it for you if you want something more unique and original. You could also (if you do not already have one) build your own website or have one built. But be careful, having a good website will add credibility to a business where a bad one will do the opposite!

Just go to different hosting sites that allow you to advertise and do some marketing. Make some ads and have a ball. Start building the customers ;)

If your site is converting well and you can manage it, look into setting up an affiliate program. By "well", I mean converting in the 10% plus range. If you can get competitive on the sales side (monthly pricing below $6) and on the affiliate commission side ($150+ CPA), you can push a lot of traffic very quickly. Not for the faint of heart.

Lots of marketplaces are presented at various hosting and near-hosting forums, where members are able to post their own offers, usually free of charge.

Many special resources are there in the internet. Plus, there are various advertising technologies, allowing people to know about the services you provide.

In order to sell hosting, you have to figure out the audience that you are targeting. The more that you know about the people you are selling too, the easier it is going to be on you to find them.

The best way to sell hosting is through forums.

But giving some payment for advertising at different websites is also a good option !

If you really look for ways of succeeding in your endeavors, I would highly advise you to think about using paid marketing methods and advertising systems because web hosting world is like an ocean and thousands of big ships managed by expert captains are already in it, making everything so puzzling and truly complex for you.

Although free traffic building methods might be useful as temporary solutions, but to become successful you need to establish a name for your hosting project online. Take a look at paid advertising options used by world-famous companies, you can find their advertisements on hundreds of spots sometimes, beside they invest heavily in their pay per click advertising solutions as well.

Even if you are about to experience your first sale, the buyer needs to have trust in you and your website, Everything counts in here like how you develop your site, what kinds of support systems you would be giving to your prospective clients, the packages features as well as costs which are important. Freebies and incentives might sometimes work too as even big firms use them.

I recommend that you start with SEO methods right away. Since hosting is an online business you will want your search engine ranks to come up high as quickly as possible. Some have also had good success with Adwords.

I would recommend that you go about starting from local markets and expanding globally.

Also, we tried adwords but it seemed like we were just feeding our money through a paper shredder. I give you the best of luck and hope it works better for you.

Id start local also, call businesses , try to find a designer to partner with locally and sell a package , then you get the hosting side.

If you really want to start online selling, sign up with google adwords but do not forget to have a complete web site providing your customer complete details about your product.

You've got to get your target market set before you can seek advice on where to market. Don't start with product, start with target market, then tailor product and price to suit.

Then look for advertising opportunities.
