VPS hosting

First off for a beginner is more indicated a share hosting account because all apps and the entire server are managed by the hosting provider. When you have a VPS you need a little bit more knowledge because you will manage the server yourself also if you want a control panel will cost you more because you have to pay for the cpanel license.

Unless you get a managed VPS ;)

As others say you can easily get a managed server (VPS or Dedicated), but still it will be handy if you still have some knowledge.

cPanel is not the only control panel available and you can get a few that are free.

A lot of VPS providers will include cpanel within the price if its a managed server, that is if you want to run a cpanel server.

Hi friends how do vps hosting differs from shared hosting

Hi Rakesh, Hemant here,

Depends on which perspective. Shared hosting, once you peak, the only option is to upgrade, or change around how you are using it to reduce, most web hosting companies with their one click upgrade tend to bypass any specials they are running on a particular package and you must do so manually. A good hosting company will help you, the latter will not, simply put they want you to spend more of your money and ofcourse make more from you. VPS all though similar allows you to manage your resources used, increase or decrease as you see fit and the Company charges accordingly. Some hosting companies might use the same tricks, i.e. if they have a special running. I good host will guide you, help you if something breaks, remember in the virtual world, you are a tenant renting virtual land for your home " i.e. website "

main difference is security and root access. Of course in shared hosting you get a resources dedicated for you only.

Oh in shared they are very much shared, hence the name :). That is one of the reasons why shared is cheaper, the costs are spread across users as is the hardware.

Consider buying a cake, you can buy an entire cake for yourself at $20 or if you take 1/4 of the cake you pay $5 then 3 others can buy the other 3/4. Probably a bad example but you get the general idea :).

Shared hosting is like having multiple roommates living with you. You pay the same rent and share everything, including bathroom, kicthen and everything else. just like in shared hosting you share everything. Your landlord owns the building and makes sure everything is working. break his rules and your out here.

VPS Hosting - vps hosting is like having your own apartment. You pay rent by your self and you have your own bathroom and kitchen. Your landlord owns the building and makes sure everything is working. break his rules and your out here.

Dedicated server - You own your own house. You dont have anyone living with you or living above you in the same building. You mange everything and have to fix everything.

Oh the infamous housing references. So much better than mine ha - Then again, mine was just to go over the price point of shared vs VPS.

If you're fresher in the world of hosting then my recommendation is go with shared hosting service. :)

Because it's good for learner. Just you'll have to keep in mind the name of service is 'shared hosting' so it's sharing of all things on the server that is resources, bandwidth etc.

Also, if you're going to host small site with limited usage then feel free to go with shared hosting, it's cheap and suitable solution for you. :)

Now come to VPS, VPS is your own server managed by yourself with full (root) access. You can play with it as per your choice. :) No restrictions. :)

You can host as much site as you want ( depend on your configuration ), can install anything.

If you can manage your own server then go with VPS.

So if you're learner go with shared hosting and once you become champ, move to VPS. :)

vps vs shared

Shared Hosting is very similar to living in an Apartment Complex. All residents are in the same location and must share the available resources with everyone. These may include such things as the pool, parking lot, and play ground. In shared hosting, all accounts must share the available resources with all the other accounts on the server. These include CPU time, memory, and disk space.

VPS Hosting is similar to owning a Condo. While you still share things on the property, you are ultimately responsible for maintaining your own property and repairs inside the condo. There is also significantly less residents per building and assigned parking. On a Virtual Private Server, you are allotted resources that are not shared by everyone. The over all CPU time and memory are shared across all accounts on the machine, but at the same time portions of those resources are always dedicated to each account. This allows for more power and flexibility than being on a shared account.

The main difference is that simple to understand, in shared Web hosting you have a hosting account in a server that is being shared with plenty of other users with different measures. In VPS hosting a specific segment of server being assigned by the web host to particular user, the other users of server did not affect you in VPS hosting while in shared web hosting in may hurt your site performance.
