Unlimited Bandwidth in Web Hosting

When I first read this thread I thought it was gonna be another bashing of "Unlimited" crap, but then I see its more like you post your opinion and get bashed. I dunno, well here is my small opinion:

Unlimited Hosts server a purpose for us, so we can point, laugh and say, bs! However, it does put a more spin on things when it comes to the hosting industry, because I have talked to many friends of mine who go with these companies and get what they paid for. My friend to me, that he never got any support after his purchase it was just fend for himself. Not the way a company should be run. I am not sure what company he went with, as he told me it died. Interesting huh?

As I've always said before--There is no such thing as unlimited or unmetered and anyone who offers it is trying to rip you off. Those hosts never do last long...Same with ebay hosts

I can make a bet that someone who offers unlimited banwidth will close your account if you exceed the bandwidth quota a provider "defines as unlimited" or it will require a payment. Most hosts that provide "unlimited bandwidth" have "hidden paragraphs" in their TOS so they'll be able to suspend or close account.

Unlimited bandwidth means that the host doesn't care how much transfer you use, and there's no peak, which I think is not possible on a shared account. If a host is offering unmetered or unlimited bandwidth on a shared account it means one user can use the full server bandwidth allotment. It might just be a marketing ploy for the hosts who offer unlimited bandwith on a shared account.

"Unlimited hosts" never work, it's as simple as that.

If unlimited resources were avaliable, 1. All web hosts would be offering it and 2. We wouldn't be having this discussion right here. So, in my opinion, it's a scam, it's a way of making quick profit within a couple of months and then turning your back on your customers and running off with their money.

[Edit: If they actually make any profit at all selling it so cheap]

Agreed, offering unlimited resources is a scam and just a ploy to lure more customers to sign up with them. Ultimately it results into a poor experience for a customer. As long as the customers remain uneducated about these facts, they leave themselves open to be taken advantage of.

There is no such thing as unlimited in any term of hosting. Hosting companies who just put unlimited basically arent professionals! Thats what i believe. You know its a good way to scam fools.. haha funny how people come up with terms that dont agree with the service.

Well I think that those who say Unlimited on their websites might wanted to express that as a big number maybe? but I think they should be specific. And yes there is nothing as unlimited

unlimited means there is no specific limit.

It may be 10 mb or 100 mb or 10 GB

but NOT infinite

If that is the case, the host is using the wrong term...they should use unmetered - NOT unlimited. There is a difference...and unlimited does not exist, it's a fantasy term

"Unlimited" hosting is just a scam, many of my friends have "Unlimited" Reseller hosting, they think it's great, appart for the 99% downtime, the fact they get hardly any support...

I really do wish people would just come to their senses and think that a hosting provider won't keep buying hard drives just to keep their hosting unlimited, it's a scam, just another way to get a few more £'s (or $'s :D)

Those unlimited meg Hard Drives are pretty good, I've just downloaded the entire web onto it. :D lol :D

that is the biggest scam. It is not possible to offer unlimited bandwith. They close your account down if you use too much.

Unlimited bandwidth and unlimited web (disk) space is always scam as all web hosts have "limited" disk space and bandwidth allocated for their servers. I agree with many people here, unfortunately some customers get attracted with the word "unlimited"...

hehe... I have seen webhosts that have unlimited space/ bandwidth/ domains for just .99/ year. I dont know how people can do that. I think there are Unlimited HD's... because so many people have unlimited space/ bandwidth. If someone knows where to get one, can you please tell me? I tried newegg, but no results :(

I was kidding.
