Reseller Package or VPS

VPSes are not for the faint-of-heart although they can be a good way to hedge against other resellers "stealing" server resources (which can happen with reseller hosting).

I would recommend starting with a reseller account (they are cheaper and more pain-free) and "upgrade" to a VPS when you are ready.

Note that VPSes come with their fair share of problems. Specifically, that if overloaded, they become unresponsive fairly quickly. A VPS with too few resources can quickly get overwhelmed due to the basic services it is running (apache, the control panel daemon, etc).

I would suggest you to get a reseller plan first because it's cheaper and better. After that when you have enough clients and you need more.. just upgrade to VPS.

it really sucks for your business when root user suspends an account and you have no knowledge about it.to have control , i recommend VPS

Starting with reseller will allows you get good start and help you to get your feets stuck deeply in this webhosting business with minimum investment.

As you are newbie, there is a lot you have to learn. I recommend to go for reseller plan. Choose a company which supports to your clients. There are many hosting companies which provides Unlimited features with the reseller plan which allows you to host unlimited domains along with unmetered space.

a VPS is surely a best thing. you don't need a managed server, just get cpanel isntalled and everything is fine. install cpanel just 4-5 steps...

With reseller at least you'll get the support and management from the provider. Unless your VPS is managed, you'll be required to update and maintain your VPS as well as providing end user support to your clients.

This is the bare minimum to setting up a VPS - the user will still need to secure the VPS, perform routine hardenings and optimizations, etc.

Which do you think is better to get when you are planning to have a reseller business? Is it easier to have a reseller package than get a VPS and dive then divide the resources by yourself?

Will the hosting company deal with the problems of my clients with a reseller package or will I still have to deal with the problems of my clients myself?

If the reseller has been around for at least 1 year or longer, it's a good way to start. The problem is that everything you build will be dependent on that reseller being in business and perfect backups for your clients. A good, stable reseller is a good thing. VPS is good too if it's well-managed, reliable and comes with all the goodies.

Definetely I suggest you to begin with a reseller acct so you get familiarized with how it works also it is less of liability and exclude you from administrating the vps. Once you have gotten more experience perhaps you can continue with the vps or if your business is really producing go to a server that is not so big so you don't have to do so many migration later on that are bit of a head ache and sometimes gives downtime.

I currently have a reseller account at a company (not sure if I'm going to put the name because I haven't fully read the rules yet :shh:) and I got it for $25.00 and that included my domain name.

It's great and so far I am very happy. The two tickets I submitted were answered quickly because there's no need to worry about setting up your VPS or managing it. Also, it's great because most of the time you find a free billing system and you also don't have to worry about paying/handling cPanel licences which for me are always a hassle.

I've had VPSs before and I'd go for resellers anyday. Just my opinion.

Best regards,
David Vazquez
