[research] Price or Service?

What attracts you? What do you focus on when looking for hosting? Do you place a focus on the service(s) and support provided or do you just put a focus on the price and that determines your purchase? This is more then just low price vs high price and assuming you get great service. Service means actually asking the host to ensure that they for example offer say help to manage your website or provide extra support or a service like hand holding. Services can range from security management, to managing content as well and doing personal work for you(we have seen an increase in this area).

services should come before looking at price as even paying $1000 and having zero service/support would be useless to you and your clients, but if you pay $1 and get service/support 24/7/365 with issues resoved in a few hours, which is the better option for you.

I always look at price first and then service as there are literally hundreds of providers that could host my requirements with no difficultly. That's because my requirements are very minimal.

For clients that require complex solutions, of course service is the better option. I'd look for a provider that excels in a particular niche.

I think price and services both must be good.

You need to find a service with affordable price and according to your needs.

When it comes to smaller websites then I usually determine the hosts with the price factor. I usually pay yearly for the smaller sites with average monthly payments from $5-$7.

If you are managing a bigger sites and your expecting a lot of traffic and lots of users (being people who come and create an account on your site) then a service factor is def a first to be determined. Larger sites are better off with paying Monthly for your hosting instead of yearly as you are never sure on when you might suddenly need to switch hosting.

Hope that helps! :)

this is fine for your own sites, but if you are a webhost, then making sure your clients websites are online at all times etc. then it is support and service you need to look at first. Price is a secondary factor

The quality of service is more important than its price. However the fact is if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. So if you want something better you have to pay more.

It depends how important your project is.
F.ex. I don't think somebody with serious demands will host their project on $0.5 hosting, unless he/she is fully ensured about the reliability of such provider.

People think Web Hosting is cheap. Why? Because every kid tosses up a website and sales cheap so others fall in but there has been a sudden rise lately over the years. People need to learn that real service costs money. We have been shifting away from budget hosting and getting real clients and proving higher level of service and it seems to be working.

this is too true, we recently started placing lisings on ebay and found most clients now come from this route, so i assume this is why these kiddie hosts trade from.

just found one such unbelievable offer.

Unlimited Web Hosting Cpanel Reseller Hosting Only £3.50 Yearly ULTRA FAST SERVER

How has the EBay route been working for you? Toyed around there but for local service instead of hosting. I have always wondered where do the kiddie hosts get their clients from. I just never got it.

i usually list a couple of reseller plans on their £2 cheaper than whats listed on my site. we do daily backups of all sites as standard, but we change clients £2 a month so if they want copies of these then they can have a copy or we will use these to reupload their sites if needed, so we get the £2 that we reduced our plans by in the end. This works a treat.

Thank ebay kiddie offer i found is here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unlimited...?pt=UK_Computing_Services&hash=item2c676660f0

take a look at what you get for your £3.50 a year. how they can do it is beyond me.

I like toying with these kiddie hosts by asking them simple questions any host should know. i did find one last year who never knew what a dedicated IP was or what DNS was

Service is always key. I've stayed with other companies where I paid a little more than I would've if I moved, but they always responded to support tickets within a few minutes no matter what time it was.

Involved, active support will win every time over a few dollars here and there.

None of it matters, but to pick one I would say price. When it comes to basic cpanel-type linux hosting there is not much more than a dimes worth of difference between hosting companies (I am only referring to reputable ones that have been in business longer than a couple of school semesters). They all claim the same service

Web hosting, especially cpanel-types is essentially a commodity. Hosts are interchangeable with price being the main difference. As a matter of fact, one of the features of cpanel that make it so popular is the ability to changes hosts with a few clicks. The desireability of easy host-hopping demonstrates my point: Cpanel hosts are fungible.

your business would suffer if you keep host hoping. so if you find a good host with good support rather than price they this is the best place to be.

The comapny we have our main server with now will answer and reply to support tickets 24/7/365 by a live person and offer solutions and fixes within 24 hours. as our business has grown rather than move we have just upgraded our server as price does not factor in the equation as true support is the major factor

Service matters so much today, people are looking for the quality, there're so many offers and so cheap prices, that it's really difficult to get a right solution.
Especially in a web industry - everyone wants a reliability, speed, lots of features, professional support, protection and security. Not every company can offer everything together, but if they can, they are considered as a reputable.

I was under the impression that the hosting end user is the subject of the poll, but I could be wrong. My answer would be different if the poll was addressing the needs of the hosting company instead of the site owner

yes it is but host hoping will always effect the end users business/sites as each time an IP/DNS change will be required which would normally result is a small downtime. along with all the effort and inconvienience of moving hosts.
