Paypal

I was being blinded by the advertisements posted by paypal everywhere until I read from different forums including paypalsucks the REAL experience people have with this old and fraudulent system. After that my opinion about them changed with 180 degrees.

I'd just like to add that while I agree PayPal isn't the best for an "online" business, I know many specalty businesses that utilize their service.

For example, I had to purchase a Thermal Camera for a research project (over USD $10,000) and the company that I purchased it from uses PayPal almost exclusively without issue (of course, they do their own indepth customer verification an individual interviews prior to sale as part of the buying process).

[as a side note, for those who don't believe a thermal/ir camera is over $10k US, these aren't the "consumer" models of night vision equipment and are beyond what law enforcment uses due to cost - see http://www.nightquest.com/thermal_imagers/400d.htm or http://www.raytheoninfrared.com if overly bored and desire proof]

Ok, not that bored. Getting there though. ;)
Well, paypal is a sensitive subject. Many like them (mostly because that's what everybody they know uses), while others go so far as to hate them and sue them. Class-action suit sound familiar to anyone? :)
Anyway, I think one should keep their options open. I'm interested in hearing what other people are using. Anyone?

PayPal is a great solution for starting out. It is always recommended to offer PayPal as an acceptable method of payment. However, you shouldn't stick around with them once you have reached maybe over 200 clients. At this point, you should get a merchant account, which we just did. That way, you will have complete control.

Well, after some pretty hard queries on the internet I found a company that worked well for me and also my clients. It's called ikobo and they have nice low fees and also fast transfer because of the visa international debit card they send you when you receive the first amount of money. When I am being notified a just go to the closest ATM machine and get the money. That's it. They have a very secure system and I won't get my money stolen like other paypal users did.

Hmm, sounds nice I suppose, but have you been using this for a while or you just read this on the net? I'd like to hear from people who've used the particular system. About this ikobo you're mentioning, I understand they're supposed to be fast and secure, but what exactly are their fees?

havent read the pages so I dont know if you have gone off topic, but if paying by paypal people have to sign up for an account although its free, some people cannot be bothered to do it! by using 2checkout they can just put their details in with no signup needed, although 2checkout does charge a one time fee...

Paypal is indeed a hassle with its requirement to sign up if you want to make a purchase. I think one could lose a lot of customers because of this. 2CO is fine, but the fact that their only a script doing an intermediary job doesn't appeal to me all that much. I could be wrong of course...

be careful with paypal on accepting credit card payments through them. they will simply charge back to you if it is fraud and you have no way to run it through your own verification proces. you can turn this option off in paypay under account options.

I do not recommend 2CO.MY MONEY DISSAPEARED! AND THEY DIDNT DELIVER IT TO MY BANK ACCOUNT! I HAVE LOST 335 USD AND NOBODY AT 2CHECKOUT KNOWS WHERE THEY ARE.... THEY RESIST TO DELIVER my money to my account, the money has been lost for almost two months and nobody WANTS to help on their help Desk, they only give me excuses and all sort of lies but I don't have my money, I opened a complaint on the BBB and I still don't have a response, I FAXed them, opened too many tickets at their helpdesk, and I even CALLed them and they hung up on me on the phone, AS FAR AS I KNOW THIS IS CALLED FRAUD. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE PROBLEMS AND OPEN A SUCCESFULL BUSINESS ON THE INTERNET DON'T WORK WITH 2CHECKOUT they are a pain in the backside!

Thanks for the warning. It's a real big problem with paypal. There's always some little loophole to allow for frauds. Not good.
I thought 2CO was somewhat better than paypal, but after reading stuff like what rowebmaster says, I'm beginning to change my opinion. Is there anything safe out there? Well, at least safer than these two?

This is why I will never use their services. There has been too many fraudulent acts into their system. Their security check is very weak and many hackers use it to get money from honest people.

When I first opened my account at ikobo they blocked my account immediately and asked me to send them two copies of my ID and some bill. After I did that (it took no more than 5 minutes) they immediately unblocked my account and since then I never had my account blocked. I think that this is a real security check.

Yeah, I know, but because of these security checks some people complain that it's hard to sign-up and stuff like that. I also found it a little annoying at first, but once I realized this is practically for my own good I didn’t have any more problems with it. If I have to choose between a fast signup with no verification whatsoever and one like ikobo's for example, I will always pick the latter, because I want to know my money is with someone who cares about who enters their system. Then again, that's just me.

Of course. I will always choose the safest way because my own money are hadled here and I don't like bad surprises.

Hmm, I don't think there is any service which won't charge you any fees at all. After all, they've got to get money out of something don't they? It's a merchant account after all, and all of these services have to charge some sort of fee, no matter what.
As rowebmaster said before, you should try finding your answers in the posts on this thread for example. You won't find anything without any fees, but you can find services which will charge you lower fees or have better features. ;)

Is Paypal considering a good payment system like 2checkout or others ?

Thanks

I find PayPay far superior to 2CO. It's a lot more user friendly and automated. Additionally, you don't have to wait for the money to arrive with PayPal, where as with 2CO there is a long queue sometimes.

In my short experience with 2CO, there were numerous times where the money simply didn't come through at all! I had to submit multiple support tickets to get my money. I have since cancelled it and am sticking with PayPal.

edit: PayPal's service fee is quite a lot less than 2CO as well :]
