How to select a webhosting provider?

Customer reviews are the number one factor for me. I stay away from the top ten hosting sites and I will run away from any host offering unlimited/unmetered space or bandwidth.

Once I've narrowed my list, I then contact sales with a list of questions. I want to gauge their answers to those questions to see their responsiveness, level of knowledge, and the overall customer service skills.

Web design is a factor, but not the only thing that I look for. If all things are equal, I go to the better looking site. However, just because a site doesn't look good, doesn't mean they are not a good host. But if I see typos or other errors on their website, I will exclude them.

For me it is uptime and support. Uptime is very important especially as lets say with a shared account if there is no downtime then you most probably will not utilize support that much.
 
All of these are reasonable methods of doing your research. Ultimately, you will need to choose a host from among many similar hosts, so it can boil down to your comfort level with each of the candidates. Contact the sales department of a few hosts that interest you, ask a few questions, and see what response you get. It's still no guarantee of good service, but it should give you a reasonably good idea of how the company treats its customers. Check out their forums, too, if they have them.
 
I think it is also important to test a website properly within a trial period! The more days a host can provide for their trial period the more reliable this company should be!
 
I would say research the companies extensively and talk to there support team. See how long it takes for them to email you back. Always read the TOS like the guy above said. Check here and WHT for reviews on the web hosting company. Best of luck
 
1. Always look for a specialized web host. Best web hosts always specialize in one server operating system only.
2. Do not join a web host that offers unlimited disk space or bandwidth. There is no magical server with unlimited supply of memory, disk space, bandwidth or CPU resources. If a web host is offering unlimited bandwidth or web space, they are absolutely lying.
3. Do not join a web host that claims %100 uptime. A good web server has to be rebooted every now and then for security and software updates.
4. Do not choose your host from hosting directories. They are nothing but paid advertisers.
5. Do not join a web host that doesn't offer a real money-back guarantee. Most hosts claim that they have it, but they simply don't pay it.

i't becomes even more important If your new.

Obviously checking few forums in the offer section will really make sense before purchasing any hosting package, this days many small companies coming and going
 
Do basic stuff..

Like what they said above, just view reviews, TOS, testimionals, Prices, Server Info, The way they work. Ask them a few questions that you would like to know and stuff.
