How long before your first customer?

For me I started out before Adsense was available, it took me 3 to 4 months to have my first customer. I was overjoyed when I signed up this very first customer, also very worried as I was still very new to web hosting then. But now the feelings are more or less numb.

It is going to be difficult and very complex if you are going to do everything all by yourself. Most leading hosting companies are the ones being managed by a group of admins and webmasters. For instance some may work on free and paid advertising packages while others handling the orders.

Do you mind me asking what you did to earn your first customer? What methods were you actually pursuing? A lot of people starting up nowadays will find it difficult to use AdWords due to it small budgets so essentially find themselves in a similar spot you were in.

Adwords are just a waist of money. There are many other cheaper ways (Blogging, forum posts ...) that you can profit much more.

Adwords isn't necessarily a waste for every site, but it needs to be monitored closely. Just be sure to set that daily-budget to something small at first because clicks can arrive rapidly, especially if you're in the top 3 spots for Adwords.
From there each site just needs to calculate their return based on advertising cost. What gets trickier is that it might cost more $ to get the subscriber to join initially, but if he/she is a recurring webhosting client you can recoup the money within a few months (as long as the client stays on-board).

We did not wait that much. Our first customer arrived 2 days later we launched but sadly it was a fraud site.So got suspended quickly and refunded :(

i know a lot of people ... i mean i am not even kidding

i got my first in hours ... and i had like 15 by the end of the month

but then they were all friends and or people who knew my friends.

I gave free hosting accounts to about 5 of my friends and 4 of them put up ad banners on their sites and told lots of people about my company. I got about 20+ customers just from them and it was worth it :D
