How do they do it? Unlimited domains and bandwidth

Unlimited is a lie, a gimmick. It's not true. Its sad to see so many people fall for these fly-by-night Unlimited hosts. WAKE UP PEOPLE. I know as humans, we tend to think biggest/most is best. Well, why do you need unlimited space when your site may only take up 500MB? Get something that is reliable, something that you can count on being there.

Stop focusing on the need to appear huge. People will only notice your site's uptime improved and responsiveness is better!

that maybe true, but lets say you are paying $300 a month for a server with 1000GB space and 1000GB b/w. then you get a client on a $4 a month unlimited plan and he uses all the 1000GB space on the server, would you be happy

Well if someone was to offer an unlimited bandwidth / space alpha reseller package at the lowest possible price (No names :smash:) then of course that would happen.

Fact is we manage our unlimited hosting properly, with the right software & hardware (I'd say our new 2012 server models are some of the most powerful in the budget hosting arena) and the right teams in place we don't suffer from those problems.

When a server is running out of space or running out of bandwidth the right teams which operate 24/7 take action without the customer even knowing anything happened.

People are always looking for the better deal and kiddie hosts are always looking for that extra buck. Put the both together and you get Unlimited Hosting with a cup of coffee. When their sites go down and kiddies have to go back to school, the reality hits them (again) and they do the sensible thing. I always advise people to stay away from anything unlimited. Either that or read the fine print to know just now unlimited the service actually is

Even though some of the largest web hosting companies are unlimited & in our case one of the fastest growing IT companies are unlimited brands?

It still boils down to .... "There is no such thing as unlimited resources" I studied economics and even then the rule of thumb was The only thing which is unlimited in this world are people's wants which is why you can influence people's choice to buy based on how badly they want the item :smash:

I think it more boils down to this industry has changed over the years. 10 years ago the drives we have today never existed, space and bandwidth was very expensive.

This is 2013, things have changed. Space & bandwidth are a thing of the past for many and it works great for us with the tens of thousands of clients we have. Yes we are not perfect for everyone, neither is a host offering hosting with limited quota but we do a very good job of it for the majority of our clients.

Of course some will prefer to not go the unlimited route, some will perfectly normal as different companies have different offering & practices.

Its is a numbers game, they base it on most users will not use too much and the ones that do get either bumped or put on severs with other heavy users, and that's the companies that even bother to manage their resources. Just look at the ISP market at unlimited accounts.

It's a good marketing technique to attract more customers. As you see these type of packages are normally for small or medium sized user needs. As I can understand, 99 out of 100 would not be using more than few GBs of their diskspace and bandwidth, that's why its profitable for companies.

Nothing is Unlimited Every person is right when someone is say he or she provide Unlimited. He or She not said false but something hidden......

I think any good company can provide unlimited web hosting space as it actually means you won't face any limits on your normal and legal usage.

I agree any responsible company can offer unlimited though what do you mean "you won't face any limits on your normal and legal usage"?

Do you offer unlimited at your hosting co?

No we don't currently provide unlimited.
iPage.com is also offering unlimited disk space and bandwidth, but they also have some terms and conditions for this.

There is no unlimited but it is a great gimmick to catch the uninitiated. The hosts that provide an unlimited service just have to manage a non quota limit as advertised so the client always has the resources available. Personally, I think it is better to know your limits and work within them.

Hello.

Mostly hosts that offer unlimited every have strong limitations on their TOS so unlimited hosts would only work out for you if you are not using much resources. But is a host is using cloud its possible to offer near unlimited plans.

A new school of thought is that 'unmetered' is more acceptable than unlimited. But is there a difference really?
Hmmm... I think unmetered is to pay a fixed amount regardless of how much resources you use, and unlimited is to pay a fixed amount for limitless resources.

Not much difference I can see but there is probably more of a debate for what resources are?

Offering unlimited domains is possible as the amount of website someone could host on a single account would be limited by storage and monthly transfer, meaning that even if you had 50 websites on a single account you can only use x amount of storage and x amount of monthly transfer between the 50 websites.
Offering unlimited storage or transfer is not possible as there is no such thing as an unlimited GB hard drive and a single server can only fit a certain number of drives, the same goes for transfer even a 100mbps port can only transfer a certain amount of data over a month even if constantly running at max load.
