High Risk Clients

Those that are always targeted by hackers (not the good ones, the ones that play DDOS games all weekend long), how are you handling them? I moved one over to his own VPS, but it seems this is a problem sometimes with shared accounts, many suffer for one person on the box - then you ask yourself if its worth it or not.

:rolleyes2

We have come across this situation and we deal with it by talking with the client first that keeps getting the server attacked. If we cannot come to a resolution with the client, we have to release them from our server as its not fair to the rest of the clients.

Fire them

Fire them. They are bad customers and are costing you money and irritating your good customers.

Don't just accept any customer. Some can cause some real problems for everyone else.

Unfortunate as it is, a DDoS prone site will ultimately have to get specialty hosting, at the cost that it entails.

The client was upset at the first time we spoke of removing them from our client base, but then after realizing the impact on other clients understood why their own hosting changed from shared to VPS alone. I was a little upset at first, this person knows very well the type of traffic they bring and acted like we were at flat. Very pleased to say on the VPS its been happier for all involved and yes more than anything this client has specialty hosting - sometimes I wonder if I am too nice. :D

Live and learn. You've got to set your boundaries, and back them up. You weren't telling the customer to leave on a whim, or trying to move them onto a VPS to get more money out of them. You were taking steps to increase their resources and ability to stand up to the DDoS attacks, and at the same time acting to protect the rest of your client base.

Your "high risk" client would be in a pickle if their merry pranksters drove off the rest of your customers, forcing you out of business...and then forcing The Target to find a new web host.

I'm glad it seems to be working out!!

we have had this problem so many times, we tryed hard to keep clients but in the end they had to be dropped then they turn on us, and say why we dropped them,

Our client was lucky and his price changed very little (maybe less than 20 bucks if that). So far its only been one client and I am thankful for it as well. And whats up with the random spammer? :X

I am glad that it worked out well, and am especially glad for your other customers. I have experienced this only as a customer whose hosting was cut off because of attacks on another shared hosting client on the same server.

Anything less than what you did simply is not fair on your other clients, and you risk losing them instead if they continued to experience down time in this way.
