Google shutting down Google Checkout on Nov 20, 2013

Have you read any information on this, Wallet is not going to be compatible with physical good sales and web hosting is not classed as a digital item by Google, so you wont be able to use Wallet in the web hosting industry

Don't select web hosting as your goods. Select Digital Items

Don't select web hosting as your goods. Select Digital Items

Really not good advise and just shows the type of business you may be running with such bad business practices. Not only are you being deceptive but putting your business at risk, should your clients take you up on Google Checkout and all of a sudden they find out your account will be closed and your customers will instantly be left without.

And they will find out sooner or later, should someone report you or if you have a dispute / chargeback they will find out.

Those aren't terms.

Where are the terms

How come I have API instructions to offer services with monthly recurring billing with Wallet?

but thats information DIRECT from Google or are they wrong also.

A news release isn't terms (no matter how many times you repeat it). I don't see it listing products and services that are forbidden. Again where are the Terms? If you are right it will be in the TOS!

If you don't know just admit it. Otherwise show me the terms!

In my docs I have: "This Tutorial will walk you through integrating Google Wallet for digital goods subscriptions. Subscriptions allows you to sell content, services, or features with automated, recurring billing."

There is nothing preventing me, technically or in writing, from selling webhosting or domain registrations. I can't find it or don't see it

My question is: where are the terms? Show me the terms or don't bother responding

that link and details are from the company called GOOGLE inc. who you seem to be calling liars like everyone else on here on all your comments you make you tell everyone they are wrong. i also SPOKE to some from the company called GOOGLE inc., i suggest you do this and then tell them they are liars to their face.

Perhaps someone here can be more helpful without resorting to name calling.

Its been claimed in this thread that its against Google rules to for webhosts using GC to use GW. By extension, I presume that also means webhosts that will be new Google users after November

When I go to sign up I get the same TOS as you would with Google Checkout. I cannot find any documents, instructions, FAQs, resources, etc that prohibit selling web hosting.

Are there any official docs from Google showing the prohibition?

Maybe an official definition of Digital Goods might be in order?

Retiring Google Checkout Announcement

On November 20th, 2013, Google will shut down its Checkout product. Here’s how this may affect you:

Merchants selling digital goods may transition to Google Wallet for digital goods
Merchants selling through Google-hosted marketplaces (e.g. Google Play) will be unaffected
Merchants selling physical goods will need to switch to third-party alternatives (see below)

This decision was not made lightly—ultimately, we decided our focus is best concentrated on other areas of the payments space. As we begin to sunset this product, you can expect to see a number of changes through 2013:

Per Google: "Unlike physical goods, digital goods do not need to be shipped (or picked up in a store). If you will email your customer with instructions for accessing digital items, then you need to identify the items on your site that are digital goods. To identify a digital item, add the product-digital CSS class to any HTML tag for that item as demonstrated in the example below."

Code:
<div class="product">
  <img class="product-image" src="server_logo.jpg">
  <span class="product-title product-digital">Web Hosting</span>
  Price: <span class="product-price">9.99</span>
  <div role="button" alt="Add to cart" tabindex="0" class="googlecart-add-button">
  </div>
</div>

I changed the example for web hosting as the digital item.

that is how it stands now, not when GC closes. i will inform Google that you are calling them liars and see how long it takes them to take action against you.

i am done arguing with an immature school kid that thinks they are always right

Its ok if you can't find what I am looking for. Its a simple request for items that are prohibited from being sold. You telling me its not OK is not enough. Its not the debate you seem to want it to be. I've read their TOS and manuals. I can't find it, and if I can't I am not surprised you cannot.

If you want to continue to confuse a request for information as some sort of proclamation, there is no more that I can do - - I have already taken time out to repeat the question in different ways.

There really is no need for your threats, name-calling or hostility.

web hosting is a SERVICE for those that cant understand this.

i have provided links and information that Wallet WILL ONLY be available for digital goods. It will not allow physical goods or services to be sold using wallet

Google does not recognise hosting as a digital item, so hosting will not be compatible with wallet.

i have also SPOKEN to a Google inc. advisor on this matter who also confirmed this to me.

If some people dont want to recognise the information released by Google and prefer to say google are wrong or call Google liars, then thats upto them

According to Alice at Google (1 855 WALLET6) when you sign up here: http://www.google.com/wallet/business/ you'll be taken to the API info page. On that page select Digital Goods. Fill out form and select Internet, Network, and Digital Media -- don't select Services -- as Primary product type. You can now sell web hosting and domain registration

I must have missed the part in this thread when a member you are referring to was calling everyone, including Google, liars.

Dear members, this will be the final public reminder to respect the "be polite" rule.

Rule 3.1 Be respectful to other users and avoid personal attacks.
http://www.hostingdiscussion.com/rules.php

A rule so obvious we shouldn't have even written it, but a rule that will most certainly be enforced.

I'm kind of confused also as I was told the opposite (I have a UK based account).

I'll try speak to someone at Google later today to see what is what.

Thanks Alex. Wallet has a couple of permutations. I can see how the In-App and Instant Buy version may not allow webhosting, but Wallet for Business (Digital Goods) seems ok. If they say no, please ask for a link to docs and/or terms. Google is smart enough and big enough to know to put these sorts of things in writing.

PS: I tried signing up with another gmail account as if I was in UK and got the same results as I posted earlier.
