Google is now a registrar

Google is very trusted and very powerful. They get the third most traffic on the web, and if they start offering services like domain registration or web hosting, they would make a lot of $$.

I have always trusted Google because it is simply one of the best.

Google is very trusted and very powerful.

Ya know....we hosts preech to people all the time "Please read our TOS." or "You didn't read our policies"

The two statements I quoted, tell me that neither of you have ever read Google's Privacy Policy.

In fact, Google may as well not even have a privacy policy.

okay let's start with:
http://www.google-watch.org/toolbar.html

Then:
http://www.google-watch.org/gmail.html

Then:
http://www.google-watch.org/krane.html

Hmmm:
http://www.google-watch.org/cgi-bin/cookie.htm

finally:
http://www.google-watch.org/valerie.html

For example, are you aware that Google can send any or all of the information they obtain on someone (INCLUDING things in their GMail inbox , after 60-90 days), whenever and to whomever they see fit, as long as it benefits their company? Their privacy policy spells that out for you.

So basically, if their company would benefit financially by selling your gmail inbox to another company...guess what.....

The thing is, they've always been this way.

The site url's I posted only outline a small portion of it. This is why Google is only one of my choices for searching, nothing more.

I told you they had traps somewhere... Honestly Google is becoming exetremely powerful way too fast now... Pretty soon they'll be an ISP! O.o

Google is better than Yahoo!

I would rather see google become the biggest because by far they have my appreciation. I use Google and only google for searches. Have you guys had the gmail experience yet? Googles gmail rocks and is by far the best email out there it is by invitation only right now but check it out if you get a chance.

We're actually publicly announcing in a few days, a change to our policy to cease all privacy sensitive email communication with any client that uses gmail. We are also requiring users to update their account with something other than gmail. We will of course outline the reason within that announcement.

GMail, a lot of people see it as a trick... I mean like, they give you 1gb of space... Thats really costly on their part to give out 1GB of FREE email space. They also presist you on NOT deleting your email and just archieving it... Now why would they want their clients NOT to free up space on their servers..?

It just makes no sense to me.

Not only do they not want you to delete, but if you insist on deleting, they pretty much make you jump through hoops to do so, and even then it's doubtful that it completely deleted.

I love Google

I have always loved Google. Their service is free, user friendly, and even if they join the hosting industry, I will still like Google. :)

they make so much money thru Google Adsense % other services that i dont see a reason why they cant manage Gmail. Plus even yahoo and hotmail are offering 250 MB so there must be a catch somewhere..

also i hav a strong feeling that they'll revoke the 1 GB thng coz i feel its simply not possible in the long run. So lets treat it as a marketing mantra than some kinda fraud..

I would like to say Hi to all the guys.. my first post on this forum :D

I don't think this was ever a question. It's more a question of "why don't they want you to delete emails?" and "What are they planning to do with that stored information?"

I have gmail and don't really use it for much.. I'd rather stick to my ISP e-mail address, much more secure.

Google has always been flawless in everything they do. Once they take off those 'beta' signs, you know their product is going to be perfect... and i mean perfect!

Agreed there. Google may be 'flawless' to the one-time user, but for the people who use it constantly, use some of their other services such as Gmail, and/or do some research on what they do behind the scenes, it can be very sneaky.

Do you all think if google started hosting, they would offer similar prices to yahoo or way cheaper?

A company that offers 2GB of free e-mail space to every user, they could offer a lot disk space for a lot less price compared to other web hosts.
