How useful is it in your experience to put a like button on your web hosting site to facebook and create a page their for your company? What are the pros and cons?

I waited years until I finally decided to create a facebook page for the company, and boy do I regret taking so long.. :crash:

Just today we had a new client sign up which came from facebook. They even posted a comment (was a rather nice touch to meet the client and put a face with the name) and followed us on Twitter right after signing up as well! :) Social media such as facebook and Twitter are definitely good marketing tools and a must for any hosting company in this day and age (IMO).

I already have a page on facebook but haven't gotten any clients from it. Is it useful to put a like button on your web hosting site?

We actually get quite a lot of traffic from Facebook, and Juan is right - the sooner you get a page put up, the better. :)

We have Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn buttons on our site to dedicated pages (we also have a Google+ page but not really "used" yet!).

As far as we are concerned, the more "contactable" we are for our customers, it can only be a good thing and benefit them. They are also a brilliant medium to get a message out to everyone quickly and simply.

I've had one for awhile actually. I may not have had it in the best category so I moved it. Last night I got a new hosting customer, not sure if it was a result of that but I am seeing some increased activity and truly appreciate everyones help on this.

I'm looking into twitter and just registered recently but it looks very foreign to me. I thought it might be similiar to facebook but apparantly it isn't. I'll just have to click around in there and see what damage I can do.

This is probably very good for new companies where the owner is handling the entire show, support tickets, phone calls, sales, etc. so opening more doors for people to contact him/her does seem like it would good for the end user.

No, not the same person handling the show - yes, general social media "posts" (twitter and facebook articles) tend to be by me, but any direct messages, facebook messages, phone calls, live chats and emails are all handled by the same ticket system for us all to work on just as we would if it was a straightforward email ticket.

As a business, web hosting is not our core business, rather it is one of the services we provide. Our primary business is supplying outsourced IT support to small and medium sized businesses with contracted SLA's etc.

To us, regardless of the medium the contact comes from, it still gets handled by the same internal process. We couldn't possibly handle everything coming from different angles effectively if we didn't operate this way.

We have had a Facebook page for quite a while and though I think it is good to have, I have not seen any noticeable results from having it. No clients attracted by it anyway.

Facebook can be an amazing tool, especially if you have the right type of friends. I graduated with a marketing degree, so I have a good network on FaceBook. It just depends on what type of product or service that you are selling. Either way, Facebook is good

Putting a Like button on your web site does help out and it helps to create a page for your company too.
There are millions and millions of people on Facebook that just browse the site and one day that 1 in a million user will end up viewing your page or even checking out your site and ending up purchasing a product from you. Any way to advertise helps out trust me.

I have Facebook and Twitter. While I do see some traffic coming from Facebook, I normally don't see any from Twitter. Non-the-less, both sites are good for advertising.

It's never a bad idea to advertise in anyway that you can. Facebook and Twitter can really help out. Running promotions on these sites helps get traffic to your site.

I've got Twitter, FaceBook and LinkedIn bars on my site where customers can follow us. I've only setup the twitter account right now but I'll open the others when I'm closer to the launch date.

I've seen many businesses have thriving social media arenas so it must be a good way for business and communication.
