Facebook - The end of Websites?

I just got an order from a facebook referral. A friend told a friend where to go. This was my personal facebook account. I had told all my friends I was back in business and bam, got an order.

This is simple. Fight fire with fire! Simply advertise "on Facebook" why it is so important for businesses to have websites. Maybe even make a page about it!

Ex:10 Reasons Small Businesses Should Have a Website:

1.Your website is your ticket to the multitude of people who are online searching for the product or service you are offering.
2.After your customers finds your product or service, your website will allow them to contact you easily and quickly via your channel of choice (email, phone or fax).
3.Your website is accessible to your current and future customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
4.A quality website adds credibility to your business.
5.Your website allows you to introduce yourself to your customers in an image rich and descriptive way. When people consider purchasing a product or service, statistically they are more likely to purchase if they know a bit about the owner. The especially like to see a face. Cody Colby, the CEO of Ableer Web Services, for example has a picture of himself as the profile pic of FB!
6.Your website allows business owners to reveal their personal side and or community activities engendering trust and loyalty in their customers.
7.In today's business environment, businesses are expected to have an online presence. This expectation will only increase.
8.Your website is an extremely useful tool for answering your customers Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). Quite a few businesses have an entire page just stating and answering people's Frequently Asked Questions.
9.To enhance and extend all printed marking materials with a link to your website.
10.Your website is the cornerstone of any current or future online marketing campaigns.

Facebook is not the end of all websites. Don't be fooled

Reasons:
* Even though you may have a profile and or page on facebook you will never have total control of that information and look.

* Facebook can remove and delete your information at any given time they see fit if you fail to follow their TOS and AUP.

* You will never have the ability to save 100% of your information even if they did or do offer that as an option.

Facebook as a business use is not practical but integrating your website to promote your products or services on facebook and then final order being processed on your site is the only way in my opinion to fully optimize to facebook.

Never the less facebook is a social area and to promote to that social area, fair enough that women is correct but having a website is still cruitial. As you have may notice, if you search the web for spam, you get the food. If I want to know about my bus timetables I would not be trying to search for it on facebook, it will be on their home page.

so from one view you are correct facebook alone could work but from the other perspective you have so much searching to find your 1 lonely page.

That's very well put. It's just smart business with the huge amount on people on Facebook to have a presence there for your business. Like Twitter, it's necessary these days to utilize it for your online marketing.

But it could never replace having your own site where you control the content, present your full product line, tell customers about yourself, take orders, etc. I can't imagine a day where you'll be able to do all that from just Facebook.

Personally, I'd rather Facebook just vanish, but that won't happen. They've become too invasive for me. Sorry, I don't want Facebook tracking me when I'm not on their site.

Steve, I do agree with you as far as a personal Facebook page goes. At this point it is indisposable as a business platform and tool. I haven't been a big fan on all of the recent changes but you have to roll with it when the exposure is that great.

The other day I overheard a group of Non-Internet savvy ladies discussing how one of them was going to open a pastry shop.

It caught my attention when one of the ladies said: "To promote your business, you don't need a Website anymore, all you need is a FaceBook..."

This got me thinking about the social network phenomenon and how we as hosters should deal with it.

Obviously I don't think this is the end of websites, but some brainstorming should be done on how we should tackle this phenomenon and what changes should be in order in our business strategy
Regards,
It won't be Facebook that puts websites out of business because there is so much you can't do on Facebook that you can only do on a website like:
1) Running certain aps like a live chat program
2) Running Payment Processor systems so you can get paid
3) You wouldn't keep your private business data on Facebook.
4) No way for customers to sign into your backend of your business from Facebook.

It's definitely not the website killer. IMO, any professional business that uses Facebook as its business site seriously need to seriously rethink their strategy...

The ladies discussion taht is been pointed in initial post cannot be denied as Facebook is very popular among all.
One can sell anything on Facebook and Twitter, the most importantly on Facebook

Maybe I just don't know enough about it, but I feel like Facebook will only be a passing fad in the larger picture of social media sites that are actually useful. I see G+ contributing to this.

Nah, there will be something bigger and better then hosting and facebook shortly.

If they sit down and fix it as they must have then google+ can become bigger than facebook

There's a certain extent facebook can help you with, facebook will always be a must for most companies because of how popular it is, but you always need your own website to do certain things you may not be able to do on facebook.

I think facebook cannot be compared to a website where you can simplfy the navigations, and allow you to look at the products/services specifically, facebook just helps on promoting a website, product, services or other advertisements.

Well, Facebook certainly has a stranglehold on Social Networking right now, and this lady was right that you could succeed online with just a Facebook account. Can you sell products like pastries off your Facebook page?

i agree with you but for selling pastries from facebook but they will not get huge profit from this i think
