Facebook - The end of Websites?

It completely depends upon your business type but a web site can really boost it up, whatever the business is.

Facebook is a good platform for marketing, so one should be using it as a tool for marketing.

Hi

To very honest, face-book or other social networking sites are only for a fun and nothing else. However, I am also using social networking sites specially Face-book for a marketing purpose ONLY

I wish I knew how to setup social networking to promote my business on Facebook and Twitter and all them.

I am not understand how people can make this work without pumping tons of money into the Ad posting type of Advertisement.

Facebook is emerging as an important part of SEO. But, it is just a part of SEO. There are many other thing that needs to be done to promote the business online. You may promote your business on Facebook, but without a website it becomes difficult. People would want to know more about you and your business and that is not possible on Facebook. That is possible only through a website. You wont have to tell everything about you business on the Facebook or any other social media site. Just inform people about your website, and the rest will be done by your site.

No its actually the reverse effect

Facebook can be said as a entry point for such newbies to the ecommerce, it will definitely make them want to create a dedicated site for selling their products/services.
So to the contrary i would say facebook nurtures the webhosting industry by raising the awareness of having a website.

What exactly does Facebook have to do with SEO? Traffic and brand recognition, yes. But SEO? :uhh:

To end the websites? No I do not think so. Social networks are just means of communication.

<MOD NOTE: Signatures must be added through user profile.>

Well it should be restated, facebook is a good place for advertising your product but you will always need your own website.

What the lady said is like: Google is the death for all searches.

Now Facebook has a lot of people and advertising with them is quite an advantage.
Still they did not got over Google!
I'm saying: it's just a good site to advertise ... but the rest is still there and working.
Did the online dating sites killed the dates in the real world?

I think Facebook is a great tool for communicating and connecting with individuals, I do not think it's a good tool for business.

Not saying you can't earn business from Facebook, but it's my opinion that people aren't using Facebook to look for products and services. They're using it to 'socialize', post photos, see whats happening around town, etc. Unless you're promoting an event, it just seems that little interest would be had in specific services.

I look after the hosting for www.myvouchercodes.co.uk & www.couponcodes4u.com, and they leverage facebook, twitter and other social media to push traffic to their main website, which they do very well.
I don't think they would be not be able to do what they do with facebook alone, as was said right at the begining, facebook and co cannot offer a website owner the same functionality and limitless flexibility.
But whatever you do, traffic is what you need to make real money, and MVC's bandwidth bill is pretty humungous, all down to manipluating social media.

Second the above posts, you can really pick and choose your niche, because they've got the demographic and geographic information you can send your ads to.

I have 3 years experience of using face book as social media. I am using it for promotion of my client website. It is effective way of website promotion.

I personally don't think Facebook will take over websites for the following reasons:

1) Not customizable enough- if you're selling a product you need to be unique- having a page with an image and a few sentences just won't cut it.

2) Though social media is currently huge, facebook is primarily a way to connect friends. If you can influence friends to 'like' or promote your products via links, you're most certainly better off than by simply having a facebook page

3) There's not only facebook! Twitter is an amazing tool to use, it's great to see what your clients think about you, and a great way to help confused and potential clients.

4) Like most social based website's we've seen, the crowd moves on. First it was MySpace, then the younger group moved to Bebo- Now it's Facebook. What's next?

5) Facebook has it's limits. For instance people are careful about what data they give facebook. It already has enough information about me, why does it need to know my spending habits or keep my emails (especially since you can now have @facebook.com emails)

These are just a few of my arguments. If anything it's a useful tool to use, however it won't take over all the websites on the internet.

Facebook rocks

Face book is a great tool ! that's all it is and Facebook knows it. With the recent changes facebook made to storage architecture making you off load the storage to you own device they are promoting web sites not hurting them.
and yes saving likely millions in bandwidth cost

I think Facebook is just another targeting audience, its a small piece of the big Internet audience, which sometimes can be more easily accessed, if you have a big no. of friends. If Facebook is enough to get your small or local business known, some people don't bother to use other marketing methods.

The lady was 100% correct to say that Facebook can make ones business successful. I do agree with this statement because I have seen instances where businesses that started before the facebook era havent made as much as the businesses that opened doors during the facebook reign. Either way, websites will STILL have to be there as many companies and businesses rely on the internet to advertise etc and you will find that many of these companies will opt to develop a website for this purpose.
