Do you trust reviews of the hosting providers?

If you ask me, I read independent reviews from trusted sources and real users.
Also I avoid hosts with frequent complaints about uptime, speed, or support.

Many “review” sites (especially those ranking top VPS or shared hosting providers) are affiliate-driven — they earn commissions when you sign up through their links. Look out for Fake positives: some hosts flood Trustpilot with “customer” reviews that are actually staff or paid reviews. The best thing to do is to look at forums that have these discission. For example, LowEndTalk / LowEndBox lots of technically savvy users who actually benchmark VPS performance. Also r/VPS, r/webhosting, r/selfhosted (on Reddit) — real sysadmins and developers discussing uptime, throttling, abuse response, etc.

Of course, you can read the reviews and trust them. However, reviews do happen to be purchased and this can negatively affect your experience, so it's better to clarify the possibility of a refund and then try the hosting you are interested in.

Well, I take hosting reviews with caution. Many are outdated, or written after only a few hours of usage. What matters more is long-term feedback, support time, consistent uptime charts, and how a provider handles issues over time.

Reviews are useful, but they are never the full picture my friend.

Depends on how the review is being "sold". Over the years it has become too easy to spot fake-ish templated reviews versus ones you know you can believe. It doesn't even matter if a review is text-based or in a multimedia format, whether it is published on a host's website or a review website.

That said, customer reviews really matter, and there are ways to keep them genuinely authentic while turning them into a real marketing asset.

When I choose a webhost, I always check the reviews, however I only trust TrustPilot or reviews here or WHT.

Would also recommend not to go to the sites that say top 10 hosting or anything of the likes because those are affiliate sites and for them the best host will be the one that pays them the most for passing you on to them.

I think you can usually tell when a company has bought reviews...
After ten years + in this industry, one thing is clear: even when you do an excellent job for a client, most of them still won’t leave a review. And when they do, it’s typically short.
So when you start seeing reviews that are unusually long, polished, or filled with keywords and NOW AI, and there are several of them, it’s something to treat with caution.
Another check is to look at the reviewer’s profile. For example, on Google (GMB), if someone has only one review, that’s not a strong signal. If they have a broader history of reviews, it carries more weight.
It generally doesn’t take long, 20 to 30 minutes, to get a sense of whether reviews are likely genuine or not.
Now this next part is more opinion-based, so take it with a pinch of salt: a business may have a mix of real and artificial reviews, but if there are clearly fake ones present... IMO it already starts to create a trust issue.

Unfortunately, it became clear from experience that most of the reviews were paid for and you should not rely on them completely.

idk man, hard to trust reviews now. every hosting site has 4.5 stars on trustpilot but then u look reddit and everyone saying its bad. where is the best place to see honest opinions?"

Reviews help, but trust long-term user experiences more than “top 10 hosting” lists honestly. A provider can look amazing on paper, then performance or support changes completely after a few months.
Look for consistent feedback about uptime, network stability, support response, and how they handle real issues, not just benchmarks.

Referal/word of mouth is a better indicator of reliablility. Review sites, including Trustpilot, can be spoofed easily. As someone already mentioned earlier, most satisfied customers won't leave reviews. And if they do, it's probably AI.

If you have any friends, family, colleagues, etc that use a hosting provider, ask them

The only thing we have to be careful with trustpilot is paid reviews
