Do Web Hosts Have Christmas Vacation?

I was thinking the same thing, like is there a connection I'm just not seeing. Nope - no connection. :D And yes, my three day vacation was fantastic. :D

Hi Steve, of course your three-day vacation is counted! I'm glad to hear it was fantastic. I hope your computer didn't interfere with your conversations, playtime and barbecue with the family :)

I think of my laptop as an extension of my body. So when I go on vacation (can't remember the last time..) it goes with me :crash:

Most people go to vacation at this time of the year. I imagine the use of the internet to surge steeply up with all the social media craze going on. Is this understanding correct?

If so, I wonder if web hosts have a Christmas vacation.

I would say that when you decide to take time away is entirely up to you. But I would say that it's important to make your clients aware that you will be away for a certain period of time. I think if people are notified they handle things much better than if suddenly it seems that their tech support team has misteriously vanished.

Well that's true. Our vacation means more or less just a little bit more free time, but unfortunately not the sweet time of idleness :)

I personally carry a laptop with a wireless modem and even get online when I'm in the mountains camping. I run a generator for power.

The apps for the social network games and such are supposed to be supported by those platforms but they would be better off as standalone apps. I expect more facebook crashes any day now, cityville beta is not stable.

Great, I got confused. I'll recycle myself and become a primate living in a fruit tree. Everything will be more simple.

But seriously, I believe he's talking about apps crashing on holidays and being supported by third party hosts (where apps don't host on their own servers and getting less support during the holidays). Althought it shouldn't really make a big difference because of that...

The cause is probably because of kids being OUT OF SCHOOL and putting stress on said apps over their hosting limits.

Same goes for kid hackers being bored. Double dose during the holidays. I do get tons of SSH logging attempts during the holidays. You got to love all those little Santa's elves making so many presents for the holidays!

And of course, not a good idea to leave the computers and support during that time.

:D Tis be a merry season :D

Staffs do have vacations but we make sure that there are people working on that day to make sure that servers are up and running with and to take calls for customer support.

I haven't had vacation for years now. But that's what I choose for. If I needed more and lengthier vacations I should have become a teacher instead.

The hosting business is just sometimes that requires attention. Most businesses are still open but provide limited support during those days.
I have never seen any big providers that completely closed their doors..

I go on vacation ummm NEVER

There is No time as your clients are always need help, or new clients are coming in.

I am planning a trip for this coming January...!

So One will be left in charge. Not Sure Who

that depends on the company and the owner ( boss ) you may have, like one normal joob, someone need to be when others will go on vacation

I woudn't sacrifice Christmas for just business, i would have better strategies to cope up with support. Maybe different shifts?

There is no vocation for a good hosting provider as in that business you could expect troubles at any minute. Also, many customers require assistance on Christmas as well.
