Best and Worst host you've had experience with?

Amazing. With the prices that purehost charge they should be offering outstanding customer service.
Ascella, what is your site with purehost and what sort of resources does it use?

Purehost Disaster

It gets worse. This afternoon I was told by a PUREHOST supervisor that the problem would be fixed in 15 to 30 minutes. Two hours later. . .it still doesn't work. So I call back and they tell me they will refer it to one of their engineers. . . The told me that two days ago. Nothing happened. As we speak I'm waiting for a supervisor. . .So far I've been waiting for about ten minutes. This has now been going on for five days. . .with no end in sight. O great they just hung up on me.

Avoid PUREHOST if a all possible.

Purehost Problems

We, like many others, found ourselves involuntarily "taken over" by Purehost last week. It took several days to get our emails to function properly, primarily because following Purehost's instructions seemed to stop the flow of email. We finally got everything up and running, only to find ourselves with no incoming email again last Friday. Worse yet, we received calls from senders telling us that all email being sent to us was bumped back to them with a message that no such addresses existed.

Purehost's website urges everyone to send emails to tech support, rather than calling them. Please explain how we can resolve technical problems via email when we cannot receive email!

Purehost's website claims they have been hosting since 1997, but our experience to date makes it very hard to believe that these people are anything other than rank amateurs.

Continuing Purehost Problems

On Tuesday, April 6th we were involuntarily shifted to PUREHOST. From that moment until Tuesday evening (April 13th) we were unable to update our website. It appeared that the PUREHOST problems were fixed, because we were able to update our website for about 10 minutes on Tuesday night. Now, however, Wednesday morning April 14th we are back to not being able to update our website. All their technical support people say is there is a technical problem. I don't think I can take another week of this. If anyone has a suggestion for a truely reliable web hosting company, please let me know.

Thanks.

ascelca, what is the URL of your web site hosted with PureHost?

I could recommend the company I'm hosted with, but there are few great companies out there that can satisfy all your needs. It comes down to what you're looking for particularly.

You can also try and open a request for hosting in our Web Hosting Requests forum (MarketPlace Forums).

Best,

Purehost is clearly the worst

I was with Dell Hosting for a couple years. I never had a particularly bad experience with Dell. Sometimes pop mail would go out to lunch but generally they were reliable.

Then one day I get an email Dell is getting out of the hosting business and I'm getting migrated to AppSitehosting. Well, um, ok. I get a series of emails over the weeks asking me to make sure I control my excitement at this move (uh huh). Before the migration is complete, I start getting emails from AppSiteHosting that they, in turn, are migrating me to PureHost.

Once over to PureHost the hell really begins. It seems they never really seemed to get the knack of providing FrontPage extensions. On their "control panel" is a means of activating FrontPage. I clicked it and got back an error page. Notifying PureHost set the wheels of hell in motion. 2 weeks later - still no frontpage extensions, but lots of emails from obviously offshore support personnel thanking me for my patience (huh?).

I died and went to Interland. Just before I cancelled my account with PureHost I got an email telling me they finally licked the problems and frontpage was now enabled. Just for the heck of it I went to the good ol' control panel and there staring back at me was an icon that said "FrontPage - coming soon!"

Oh, man - "stay away from PureHost" is my opinion. It's also my opinion to stay away from AppSiteHosting as well - despite my protests to them about Purehost's poor service, they all but told me to go pound sand.

But, so far, Interland has been a breath of long-awaited fresh air. Same price too.

Gonna make this simple

Basically before I started hosting, the best place I found that hosted me was a friend I had known for a long time. I could call him anytime and it was great.

The worst I'd have to say is now Interland used to be Icomm I believe.. Interland's support wasn't that great and I had many problems with them.

Regards,
Aaron

Purehost utterly awful and totally incompetent

I have repeatedly complained to Appsite for moving me. Today's email:

"The most infuriating part of this forced move to purehost is that even after repeated complaints to dell and appsite, I have not had the decency of a response.

How could you move a commercial site such as mine to a hosting "service" whose IP addresses are listed in SPEWS and are blacklisted elsewhere???!!

Did you think for a moment that this would *not* affect my business?!

Purehost has presented problems on every level imaginable:

1) Windows asking for permissions occasionally out of a clear blue sky on UNprotected pages.

2) Inability to ftp in.

3) Entire site cached - updated uploaded file takes 24 hours to appear on the internet!!!!

4) SMTP useless because of SPEWS and other blacklists.

5) Every response form their "support" dances around the specified problem and tells the customer to find a solution!!!

Bear in mind that when I was notified that the site was fully migrated, only about 10% was actually migrated and for almost 48 hours the entire site was not available.

Why you made this shift is beyond me. I was a loyal Dell customer for several years, never late on payment and always well within bandwidth limits."

---------------------------

The list above details about 5% of the problems I have had since the forced migration. I cannot conceive of a more incompetent or unresourceful hosting "company." How anyone in his right mind acquires a range of IP addresses that are blacklisted is beyond me!!! We're not just talking stupid, this is about as retarded as it gets. The last three weeks have been the most stressful period I have had in many years.

I must say that I don't see how Dell is at fault here. They closed their business and decided to move their customers to Appsite. Appsite made the decision to move you to purehost, not dell. I don't think you should be blaming dell. Just my opinion.

Interland support experience.

My satisfaction with Interland support has been, so far, exceptional. I've made 2 support requests by email, each solved in under 30 minutes. Not too shabby. YMMV.

I also had very bad time with PureHost. I experienced the same problems as described above by "pistachio".

I have one recommendation for you if you are forced to PureHost from DellHost:

Stay away from PureHost and go look somewhere else in your earliest convenience.

You think you've had it tough listen to what these idiots at primenet.cc have done to me.

listen to their email that was sent to me after i closed my account with them. Mind you i had asked them to close my account two months earlier yet they would not respond. I found a better hosting provider with better support and services. After I closed my account with them I received this order from our webpages.

domain=zsdv

and this is the IP address that was tagged along with primenet.cc's emails to me:

Can you believe this! anyway it doesn't end there, i get another email telling me that i will be billed the yearly hosting amount of $75 because i did not give them 60 days notice till 12/22/2003!! Forgetting the fact that I asked them to close my account in Aug, they have the audacity to threaten me with another invoice. These no good backyard punks!

AVOID PRIMENET.CC WHATEVER YOU DO, THE WORST, ABSOLUTELY THE WORST!!!!!

here's their other email to me.

I'm glad our tech support doesn't have that type of attitude towards clients and people in general. Thanks for posting that, I had a good little chuckle. When your customer service reps can't spell properly, or use good grammar, it doesn't help a company look too professional.

Thanks again :)
P.S. I think you're better off without them, simply from what you posted.

Agree about purehost

I've been having a terrible time getting support from purehost.com. It's been 4 days and I still don't have an answer to a tech support question. The first response I got looked like an automated response based on the key words in my e-mail. It was a copy of the web page that I had used to try to set up a form e-mail script. The problem is that following the instructions results in an error :-( When I sent in another request, I got a short response that they "had already answered my question, please go back and re-read the last e-mail".

Terrible, terrible, terrible customer service. I'd like to know where you got their phone number, because it's not on their web page and looking it up on the yellow pages gets me nowhere. It's like they're hiding from their customers.

[ Edited ] I've just found their tech support phone number on the 'Changes' Page. I was expecting it to be on the support or contact us page. My bad.

I am a web master for a Christian church. Unfortunately, Appsite, a terrific hosting company, sold our account to Purehost. What a disaster. Our website has been down for four days this week because Purehost can't seem to figure out how to install the Front Page extenions on their servers. (By the way, when we migrated to Appsite from Dellhost, they installed the Front Page extensions while I was on the phone in 5 minutes!).

Everytime you call PUREHOST.COM it is a 20 minute wait and then no one seems to know how to solve any problems there. (Believe it or not, one of the people they have answering the phone in their call center is their human resource manager.) With Purehost, we have been unable to update our web site for four days now and there is no end in sight. In addtion, on Good Friday (a pretty important date for Christions) we had no Website at all. Its now the Saturday before Easter (another big day for Christians) . . . and here I am with no way to update our web site.

My advice avoid PUREHOST.COM

best/worst

The Best Company of course in my opinion would be my own (lol)
Virtual Web Concepts Inc. We do web design / hosting With close to 100 servers offices in 4 states here in the US and we still have retained 76% of the same customers for allmost 6 years since we started.

The WORST!!!
Xtechit

When we first got started in web design and we were setting up our Hosting Division  we used these people we puy over 40 sites on them they were real good for 9 months and then the problems would roll in sites dissapering, server crashes all kinds of nightmares they would go out for days at a time. you could never get in touch with these people to save your life. They advertised that they were in the USA come to find out they are in Malasia some where.

Siteturn Networks Hosting Company

Siteturn has been my hosting company for the past 4 months. They are very reliable and exremely cheap for what they have to offer. I was told by one of their representatives that they are under new managment and the support I received was very complete and helpful.
For what you are paying you get the best and I think it is worth every penny.
my pick:
Best for low cost...
www.Siteturn.com

 Hmm... I've had the most horrible experience with SiteTurn Networks. So do many other people if you do a little research.

Ok.. the best hoster I have had dealings with would be by far ICDsoft. These guys are nothing but brilliant. There servers are never down (once in the 3 years I was with them) and their support in my view is second to none. The only reason I am not with them now is that my site out grew their services.

Now the worste I have dealt with would HAVE to be hostforweb. These guys suck absolutly. Their servers are always going down. There was an unannounced outage once that lasted 15 hours and still till this day I do not know why. Their support is nothing but useless and you get stupid responces like "It works for me" which as you can imagine can fuel the temper somewhat. hehe I normaly am pretty calm and try to talk in a polite manner.. but these people just bought the worst out of me.
I hated them.

did you consider?....??

Hi,

Sorry to go sideways on the bashing stuff.
Has anyone considered that you might have been a victim of a hacker that did the dirty work FROM the victimized HOSTING website?

For example, if they wanted to make the HOSTING company look bad (as a joke) they would email out the nasty notice(s) ?

Even one of you mentioned that your passwords should be tough to guess.

Just a thought.

I like my hosting service just fine for the last three years.

Sincerely,

Luan Vu (Michael)
