50$ dedicated - is it real?

Even some big hosts are offering dedi servers for that price so why not? This is funny as you could get VPS for that price with WORSE features.
In the example I've found, the dedi server has got Athlon 3700+ with 1024 RAM and the VPS for the same price got 1,8 Ghz + 1024 RAM. Interesting for sure ;)

I am always skeptical about providers that offer dedicated servers near 60$. Regular server requires 2 Amps of 110V power. 1 Amp (backed up, stabilized, air conditioned) cost near ~15$ so you need near 30-40$ ONLY to power up a server. Add super cheap, oversold internet 10-15$ add MEGA cheap colo price 10-15$, plus server cost lets say at least 15-20$/month and you have 65-90 price range.

As you see it is extremely difficult to create effective business model with 50$ per server price. Both sides should have advantage of doing business only in that case it will last long.

am I wrong ?

No you are right. If the price that you are paying is less then the "maintaing" cost there are 2 choices:
1. Limited time offer
2. Scamp - most probably.

UMMM mr datashack up there sells quad core athlon II for $59 a month and that is easy for him from the sound of it. Haven't seen any bad reviews.

Personally I have not seen or even known of any hosts out there who is doing Dedicated 1Gbps Unmetered for $25 or so. Not even $50. It's totally below cost and not only that, it is going to ruin the company in a very very short time.

There are NO Carriers who would give you that deal for sure. Not even if you're getting a whole BIG volume with them. There's just no way of doing it and still maintaining a profit. If it was on a Shared Network and if they are overselling everything, then YES it is definitely possible. But if you're talking about the $50 range and getting a 1Gbps Port (Dedicated), then you either have found a company who is going down the drain fast or you're just kidding yourself.

Agree. Bandwidth cost money. It is nice deal to have dedicated 1G for $1000 per month and it is not even close to $25... :disagree:

That's for unamanaged servers somewhere in the offshore.

You already know how much does the providing cost to the provider, and realized they cannot work for loss.

It's certainly possible to get dedicated servers for 50USD or possibly even lower... When you already own the hardware, and it's getting quiet old why not sell it for anything to make a few bucks?

We have some older Intel Celeron L-420 that we aren't using and know some of our clients are using them for backups, and lite database servers.

There are many companies who tend to offer for prices as low as $20 (Saw once) and unto $30-40.
The only reason for them to do so is using low class facility.

60USD isnt really cheap anymore. Today you can get cloud servers with fully dedicated hardware starting from 29USD. So makes no sense get ATOMs anymore.

u are not wrong
BUt what I have seen, good hosts provide concession on first month only or some initial 2-3 months
This I can say from my experience

Honestly, You would better go with an VDS/Cloud server solution which would come with true up-to-date hardware for same price...rather then going with dedicated server which has some generic hardware. You should not relay your business on a such budget servers.

At some point in time, costs gets so low that you need to start worrying about longevity, and whether the host is setting up for a cut-and-run after getting some annual plans paid for.

I've seen that at WHT and LEB many times in past years, where a "host" (kiddie, thief) sets up shop, takes in several long-term payments for retarded cheap hosting, and then bails after a month or two. Sites then get cut off because he/she didn't pay the datacenter.

Always check to see if the host is using licensed software. WHMCS, for example. Cash grabbers tend to use nulled setups.

Please check the company reviews before going further. Can be fake too

I think you're completely right, and I'd be very skeptical of any host offering dedicated servers under ~$60/mo... unless you're looking for cheap, low quality hosting.
