Zyxel’s cloud update targets IT teams stretched thinner than their networks

Zyxel Networks pushed out Nebula 20.10 this week, and the release notes bury a detail that matters more than the headline features: a lot of IT teams now run networks with fewer people than they used to, and Zyxel is betting its cloud dashboard, not more headcount, closes that gap.

Start with identity, because it shows most clearly what “cloud-managed” actually means in practice. Nebula’s control centre now connects to Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace and Okta, so employees log into company WiFi and VPN with credentials they already have, instead of IT creating and eventually deleting a separate account in yet another console.

In shared or multi-tenant buildings, that same federation lets people from different companies join one WiFi network using their own company logins, and admins set it all from a single cloud screen instead of configuring it site by site. Passkey support for passwordless sign-in, which runs through Nebula’s cloud authentication server, should quietly kill off a chunk of the password reset tickets that eat junior IT staff’s mornings.

Troubleshooting gets the same treatment. A live topology map now shows, across every site an admin oversees, how devices actually connect, not how the network diagram from three years ago says they connect. Nebula now pulls centralized event logs into one screen for managed service providers juggling several client networks, instead of making them log into a dozen separate portals to chase the same fault.

Device replacement is the one that sounds boring until you’ve lived through the old process. Swap a dead switch or access point, and the platform pushes its configuration and license straight to the new hardware, skipping the manual reset a technician used to do standing in a server closet. For a small IT team covering several branches, that’s a remote fix from a laptop instead of a drive across town.

Some of this requires a Nebula Pro Pack or MSP Pack license, so standard plans leave out part of the feature set. Zyxel puts its user base at over a million businesses across 150 markets, and ANZ regional head Gary Chen tied the release to cutting the repetitive work that eats up technical teams’ time.

Nothing here is flashy on its own. Add it up, though, and it tells the same story most networking vendors are chasing right now: IT headcount is not keeping pace, so the cloud has to carry what falls through the gaps.
