Sharon AI signs $1.3 billion New Zealand cloud deal

Sharon AI, an Australian cloud infrastructure company, has signed a $1.32 billion contract to build out AI computing capacity in New Zealand for an unnamed AI lab, another sizable win in what’s turning into a busy stretch of dealmaking for the company.

The five-year agreement will see Sharon AI deploy what it calls an “AI Factory,” a large cluster of GPU infrastructure, somewhere in New Zealand’s data center corridor, though the company hasn’t said exactly where. Most of the country’s data centers cluster around Auckland, home to operators like Datacom and CDC Data Centres, so that region is a reasonable guess even without official confirmation. Revenue from the deal isn’t expected to start flowing until the first half of 2027, giving Sharon AI roughly a year to actually get the infrastructure built and running.

Sharon AI co-founder and CEO James Manning said New Zealand stood out as the right home for the company’s first AI Factory, citing the country’s established data center infrastructure and its capacity to support future expansion. He also noted that interest across the broader Asia-Pacific region keeps coming from all directions, with enterprises, governments, hyperscalers, and other AI-focused companies all in the mix.

This New Zealand contract lands on top of a string of other major deals Sharon AI has closed recently. In the past several months alone, the company signed a $950 million cloud agreement with an unnamed tech company, a $1.25 billion capacity deal with ESDS Software Solutions, and in June, a six-year infrastructure partnership with Nvidia covering 72 megawatts of AI data center capacity in Australia, built around Nvidia’s DSX AI factory design and scaling toward 40,000 Grace Blackwell GPUs. Sharon AI also struck a separate 600-petabyte storage agreement with Vast Data that same month.

Across all of its projects combined, Sharon AI now has 132 megawatts of total AI Factory capacity, with 116 megawatts already contracted to customers. By mid-2027, the company expects to have deployed more than 62,000 Nvidia GPUs across its growing footprint, a scale that puts Sharon AI firmly among the more aggressive AI infrastructure builders currently expanding across the Asia-Pacific region.
