DigitalOcean’s new iPhone app lets you approve an AI agent’s next move

DigitalOcean has released Cuttlefish, an iPhone app for watching AI agents that run on its cloud. The app lets a person approve or block individual tool calls, and it works with Box to let agents edit shared business files directly. The app and its service are in public preview. The Box link is still in private preview.

Consider the problem it targets. An agent that stops to ask permission can turn a quick job into a long wait if the person who must answer is away from a desk. Cuttlefish shows the command the agent wants to run, the file it wants to touch or the change it proposes. The reviewer can then deny it, redirect the agent or end the session. The work happens in a DigitalOcean microVM, so locking the phone doesn’t pause anything.

Speed has a downside, though. Some decisions fit on a small screen, like a short code change. Others don’t, such as a bulk rewrite of spreadsheets, where a finance manager must compare several files and check who depends on them. A phone can shorten a queue. It can also make a sloppy approval process easier to rush through.

The Box side raises similar questions. Box Mount gives an agent a chosen folder inside its workspace, and edits and deletions the agent makes flow back to Box. Each user connects their own account, so existing permissions, version history and audit records still apply. For a legal or support team, that saves copying documents out and uploading results by hand. It also shortens the road from an agent’s slip to a change colleagues can see. A shared folder may hold drafts, templates and approved documents together, and an edit to one of them costs far more than an edit to another. So the first pilot should use a folder that is easy to restore, owned by someone who can spot a bad change fast.

Which agents does it handle? Cuttlefish works with software customers run on DigitalOcean Managed Agents, including Claude Code, Codex CLI and OpenCode. That means development teams can pick their agent and keep one mobile interface. It also leaves DigitalOcean in charge of where commands run and where session state lives, so buyers should check how easily they could move files and recreate approval rules elsewhere.

Billing follows active CPU use, so an agent idling while it waits costs little. A person’s time is another bill, however, and pilots that count only server charges can look cheap while interrupting employees all day.
