DigitalOcean bundles AI agent infrastructure into flat monthly plans

DigitalOcean has introduced Agent Droplets, subscription bundles that combine compute, inference, memory, storage and tool access into a single package for AI agents. The offering builds on Managed Agents, the company’s platform that entered public preview on September 22, and it points to a broader question many infrastructure providers are wrestling with right now: how do you price something as unpredictable as an autonomous agent’s resource use?

Two plans launch out of the gate. Pro runs $50 per month and Team comes in at $200, and each carries a built-in discount on eligible resources within the monthly allowance, 15 percent for Pro and 20 percent for Team. Customers who hit their limit can either stop there or let usage roll on at standard list prices, giving smaller teams a way to keep a lid on costs without losing access entirely.

Under the hood, each bundle includes isolated microVM execution environments, so agents run in their own contained space, along with inference powered by DigitalOcean-hosted models and governed access to more than 16,000 tools. Agents also keep persistent memory and session storage between runs, while observability features like single sign-on, role-based access and audit logs give teams a way to track what agents are actually doing.

Notably, customers can run as many agents as they want without per-seat charges, as long as they stay within their resource allowance. That structure sets it apart from how many SaaS tools price AI features, and it may appeal to teams juggling several agents at once rather than paying per user. Models hosted outside DigitalOcean, including Claude and GPT, still bill at standard list prices regardless of plan.

DigitalOcean also rolled out a prepaid Inference and Agents Balance, letting customers deposit anywhere from $5 to $500 upfront. Both the balance option and Agent Droplets are available wherever Managed Agents already runs, though the company notes that both remain in public preview, so production-level performance isn’t guaranteed yet.
