A pioneering consortium from Iceland has launched IceCloud Integrated Services, a cloud platform fully powered by renewable energy. This innovative service offers customizable, scalable cloud solutions designed to help businesses meet their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments while reducing operational costs.
IceCloud combines the strengths of Vesper Technologies, Sardina Systems, and Borealis Datacenter to deliver a cloud service running on Iceland’s geothermal and hydropower resources. Sardina’s Fish OS, which integrates OpenStack, Kubernetes, and Ceph storage, powers the platform, making it highly adaptable to enterprise needs.
Operating in Iceland’s naturally cold climate, IceCloud dramatically cuts cooling expenses, leading to significant energy savings. Businesses can achieve a 50% reduction in energy consumption during off-peak hours and an overall 38% decrease in energy use. This approach not only supports sustainability goals but also offers substantial cost savings.
Kristófer Andri Kristinsson from Borealis Datacenter highlighted the project’s impact, stating, “By utilizing Iceland’s 100% renewable energy, IceCloud provides a sustainable, cost-effective solution for businesses aiming to scale responsibly.”
