Expedient has bought phoenixNAP’s U.S. managed VMware cloud and Veeam backup and disaster recovery business, and the timing is tied to a contract end date. According to Expedient, VMware service provider contracts that will not continue, phoenixNAP’s among them, end in March 2027 as Broadcom consolidates its provider program. The companies have not disclosed the financial terms.
For now, little changes for customers. Expedient says they keep their environments, consoles, service levels and support engineers at closing, and they need to do nothing to keep licensing and support in place. Expedient’s Pinnacle tier status supplies the licensing route for their VMware Cloud Foundation environments.
The services run out of phoenixNAP facilities in Phoenix, Arizona and Ashburn, Virginia. The sale leaves out the rest of phoenixNAP, including its international operations. That company will keep running Bare Metal Cloud, dedicated servers, its global network and other infrastructure services.
The harder part comes later. Expedient plans to move the acquired environments onto its own cloud in its own data centers, and says it will set the schedule with each customer. Workloads, networks and IP addresses will not move without an agreed plan. A migration involves more than virtual machines, since dependent applications, network links, access rights and recovery steps all depend on where the platform sits. Keeping the same support engineers should help, yet someone still has to write down who owns what and what counts as done.
Backup and disaster recovery add another worry, since the deal includes those services. Customers will want to know how protection holds up mid move, and whether they can still meet their recovery goals along the way.
Expedient reports sales growth above 40% over the past year, but that number describes its whole business, not the acquired unit, and it says nothing about what customers will pay after they move. The company also sells security, recovery and AI services, and incoming accounts can add them whenever they like.
Several gaps remain. The announcement gives no customer count, acquired revenue, profit figure, migration charge, new pricing or completion dates, and it does not say where each customer will land across Expedient’s 14 U.S. data centers. Customers will likely want those answers in writing, along with their support terms.
