Virtuozzo names macle DACH distributor, but its 80% savings claim lacks method

Virtuozzo has named macle its distributor for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, so cloud providers and data center operators in those markets can buy the software and the hardware under it from one supplier. The target audience is companies weighing alternatives to VMware.

This is a story about purchasing. macle sells servers, storage and networking, new and used, and it will configure equipment to order. It also handles German language sales and support, reseller onboarding and license administration, while Virtuozzo supplies the technical expertise. Buying from one supplier trims paperwork, but the hard part of leaving VMware happens elsewhere: moving applications, rewriting runbooks and keeping existing customer promises intact.

Then comes the headline number. Virtuozzo says its Infrastructure System could cut costs by as much as 80% compared with VMware and hyperscaler infrastructure. The announcement does not say how it got there. Because the claim is an upper limit, it describes a best case, and a buyer cannot turn it into a savings estimate without knowing what the buyer is replacing, how efficiently the hardware runs and how much operational work the customer takes on.

The platform itself combines compute, networking and storage, with an OpenStack compatible API, Kubernetes as a service and software defined storage. A familiar API helps, yet scripts and tools that assume another stack may still need rework, so teams should test the workflows they depend on.

Local deployment is the other part of the pitch, and it matters to customers who care where systems and data sit. Keeping systems local does not settle the sovereignty question on its own, though. Who holds admin rights, what the contracts say and what each customer’s regulator requires all matter, and a distribution deal cannot answer them.

macle also offers rental and leasing from one month, which keeps the upfront commitment small for trials or extra capacity. Easy hardware terms do not make the software simpler to drop later. GPU and AI services get a mention as well, but the announcement names no customer deployment and no benchmark.

Two questions remain open: who fixes a failure that touches both the hardware and the software, and what a real quote looks like once the 80% claim meets it.
