ASSIST, Codesphere showcase AI and sovereign cloud for defense in Linz

Military organizations want AI’s speed without giving up the final call, and cloud architecture sits right at the center of how ASSIST Software and Codesphere plan to make that possible. The two companies will give a joint presentation at Austria’s IKT Security Conference, held at the Design Center Linz on September 16 and 17, covering field robotics, AI-supported decision-making, and how sovereign cloud infrastructure keeps sensitive data under an organization’s own control.

The Austrian Armed Forces organizes the conference, which draws specialists from defense, public administration, research, and critical infrastructure sectors across the region. Tudor Andronic, managing director of ASSIST Software, and René Döhring, chief product officer at Codesphere, are framing their presentation around a problem specific to defense and security operations: organizations want AI’s analytical speed, but they can’t hand over command authority, cloud data control, or accountability for outcomes along with it.

“AI can filter observations, identify relevant information, and reduce the time needed to understand a situation,” Andronic said. “The final judgment must still belong to the person responsible for the operation. That division of responsibility has guided the system we will present in Linz.”

ASSIST Software plans to demonstrate a robotic field companion built to support situational awareness in the field. The mobile platform runs onboard computing and AI-based sensing to detect relevant activity and alert personnel directly, with processing happening at the edge rather than depending on a constant connection to an external cloud, since a lost connection can’t be allowed to take down a sensing system in the middle of an operation.

That same human-in-the-loop principle carries into training, planning, and after-action review, where AI tools process information and prepare material for people to examine, while plans, interventions, and final conclusions still require human approval before anything moves forward.

Codesphere’s part of the presentation covers the cloud infrastructure question underneath all of this. Its Virtual Cloud Platform lets organizations run workloads across public cloud, sovereign cloud, private cloud, and on-premises systems through a single control layer, giving defense and public-sector organizations the flexibility to choose where their applications and data actually live while keeping security, governance, and operations centralized.

The Linz presentation will lay out the core concept behind this joint approach, with deeper technical detail and a live demonstration available afterward at the companies’ shared booth.
