Domain registrar Porkbun announced this week that it now manages more than 4 million domains, a milestone that arrived faster than any of its previous ones. Nine months separated the jump from 3 million to 4 million. By contrast, reaching the very first million took the company seven full years.
The pattern in between tells its own story. Two years passed between the first and second million. The third took roughly 15 months. Each subsequent million has arrived in less time than the one before it, which suggests the company’s growth isn’t just continuing, it’s compounding.
Ownership matters as much as the total here. Porkbun says its 4 million domains spread across more than 750,000 individual customer accounts, averaging out to about five domains per person. A concentration of domains among a small number of resellers or enterprise clients would tell a very different story than what Porkbun is describing: a broad base of individual builders, each making their own decision to register something.
Third-party rankings back up at least part of the narrative. Forbes Advisor placed Porkbun at the top of its registrar rankings for both 2025 and 2026. USA Today has ranked it first since introducing its own registrar rankings in 2023. Independently, Trustpilot users have rated the company 4.8 out of 5 across more than 25,000 reviews, a figure Porkbun says outpaces every other major competitor in the space.
CEO Raymond King credited much of the acceleration to referrals, arguing that existing users spreading the word is what compresses the timeline between milestones. He played down the raw number itself, framing it instead as evidence that people genuinely use the domains they buy rather than leaving them parked. Google Registry’s Bruno Panara took a narrower view of the same data, pointing to strong developer uptake around .app and .dev extensions specifically.
Domain registration anchors Porkbun’s business, but the company has stacked additional services on top over the past few years, including WordPress-focused cloud hosting built on WP Cloud infrastructure and a bundled AI site builder aimed at cutting the time from idea to live website.
