GigaCloud, Cubbit partner on wartime cloud storage

Running cloud infrastructure in a country under active bombardment forces different design choices than running it anywhere else. GigaCloud, Ukraine’s largest cloud provider, just made one of those choices concrete by adopting Cubbit‘s geo-distributed storage system across its data centers.

The partnership spreads customer data across five sites in three availability zones: Kyiv, Lviv, and Warsaw. Cubbit’s technology, called DS3 Composer, works by encrypting data, breaking it into fragments, and scattering those fragments across multiple locations, so no single site ever holds a complete, readable copy. If one location goes offline, whether from an outage or something worse, the data stays accessible from the others.

That structure matters for GigaCloud specifically because of who it serves. The company says it works with over 1,500 organizations and describes itself as the largest digital transformation partner to Ukraine’s public sector, spanning consulting, cybersecurity, and cloud infrastructure. Its customer base skews toward government, defense, financial services, and other sectors where losing access to data isn’t just inconvenient, it can be operationally dangerous.

Customers get to choose exactly where their data lives: Ukraine only, Poland only, or split across both, while staying compliant with GDPR and regional data rules. Each customer also gets full tenant isolation, meaning their storage environment, access controls, and billing stay separate from every other customer on the platform.

GigaCloud CEO Nazariy Kurochko put the reasoning plainly: you can’t build cloud infrastructure in a region like his on assumptions that work fine in calmer markets. Businesses there have had to get comfortable planning for disruption as a baseline, not an edge case, and choosing architecture that holds up when things go sideways.

Stefano Onofri, Cubbit‘s co-CEO, framed the deal as bringing something genuinely new to the region: geo-distributed storage infrastructure built specifically to keep sensitive data protected and available, even under conditions most cloud providers never have to plan for.

The main use cases GigaCloud is targeting include immutable backups, disaster recovery, long-term archiving, and managing large volumes of unstructured data, the kind of work that becomes non-negotiable when you can’t count on normal infrastructure to stay up.

Cubbit will provide training and joint sales support as the rollout continues, part of a broader effort both companies describe as strengthening cloud resilience across the region.
