InMotion Hosting turns 25 still owing answers to nobody but its customers

Most hosting companies have changed hands at least once in 25 years. Sold to a private equity firm, absorbed by a larger brand, or pivoted toward outside investors looking for returns. InMotion Hosting hasn’t done any of that, and its founders are marking the company’s 25th anniversary by pointing to that fact directly.

Founded in 2001 by Todd Robinson and Sunil Saxena, InMotion Hosting has stayed under the same founding ownership for its entire run. The company designs, owns, and operates its own hardware and private network rather than reselling capacity from hyperscale cloud providers, which means the engineers responsible for customer infrastructure are the same people answering for it when something goes wrong.

Robinson put the independence argument plainly in the founders’ open letter published to mark the milestone: staying private means the company can plan for the long term, hold pricing steady, and keep the same team accountable to customers year after year without outside investors pushing different priorities. That’s a harder case to make in the early years of a business. Twenty-five years in, it carries more weight.

Saxena framed the anniversary as belonging to customers as much as to the founders themselves, noting that the milestone reflects the trust customers extended by keeping their sites and applications on InMotion‘s infrastructure across more than two decades.

To mark the occasion, the company launched an anniversary campaign running through July 31, 2026, with offers across its managed dedicated, bare metal, and eco-friendly server lines for both new and existing customers. The founders’ letter is available on the company’s website for anyone who wants to read the longer version of what 25 years of independent operation actually looks like from the inside.

In an industry where consolidation has been relentless and brand names often outlast the companies that originally built them, staying founder-led and privately held for a quarter century is genuinely uncommon. Whether that matters to a prospective customer depends on what they’re looking for, but for those who’ve watched hosting providers change ownership and quietly shift priorities, it’s a meaningful distinction.
