Velosio takes on the messy middle of Microsoft’s cloud hosting

Velosio just got bigger. Whether it got better is a separate question, and one that will take longer to answer.

The Microsoft partner has acquired the commercial assets of Kopis, a Greenville, South Carolina, firm with 25 years of Azure hosting and custom software work, along with Acuitas, which brings deep experience across Dynamics 365 Business Central, CRM, and older platforms like Dynamics GP, NAV, and SL. Together, the deals push Velosio further into Azure cloud migration, application modernization, and the kind of legacy ERP hosting support that companies tend to ignore until something breaks during month-end close.

On paper, the logic holds up. Court Square Capital Partners owns Velosio, which explains the strategic shape here: a fairly standard services rollup aimed at owning more of the infrastructure and hosting relationship customers rely on after the license sale. CEO Robbie Morrison framed it as answering demand for a single partner that can manage more of a customer’s Microsoft cloud environment, the same pitch nearly every large hosting-adjacent integrator has made for years.

The harder part is what happens next. The people who show up to deliver the work, not the acquisition announcement, make a services firm worth what it’s worth. If the architects and consultants at Kopis and Acuitas stay put and keep operating the way they always have, Velosio gains real hosting and Azure depth. If they leave, or a bigger company’s processes bury them, the capability that justified the purchase price starts to erode fast, and clients hosted on these systems tend to notice before headquarters does.

There’s a second layer worth watching too. Acuitas’s legacy Dynamics base includes a lot of companies still running on-premises or lightly hosted setups, not because they’re indifferent to modernizing, but because full cloud migration is expensive and disruptive. That’s a real opportunity, but it also means Velosio inherits messy data and old customizations, not a clean slate ready for Copilot and AI-enabled hosting environments.

Microsoft gains another partner to carry its cloud hosting and AI push into the midmarket. Whether customers benefit sooner rather than later depends less on the deal terms and more on whether the people who made these firms worth buying are still around in a year.
